Hi,
First: this Problem i had with an older version too. Then i changed to a MikroTik Router. And after a few days i tried the Asus again and then all works again.

Problem: i looked threw the settings in the UI but changed nothing. Then i wanted to logout. The logout popup was shown, i klicked yes, but nothing happened.
Then i closed the Browser. And till this time i can't login to the router.
When i tipe the address the browser waits and waits and nothing happens.
Only during bootup i can connect for a few seconds.

I did a complete new fw flash with reset. What can i do?

Thanks and kind regards
Chris

Edit: are you doing this over wifi? Is there a stronger network nearby and your client has the "connect automatically" box checked to that SID?

Edit 2: I also had similar symptoms one time. I do not have an Ethernet port on my laptop and have to use a USB to Ethernet adapter. The connection between the adapter and cable became loose and I even though my web GUI was displayed on my monitor, it was non responsive.

Power the router off. Connect an Ethernet cable. Power the router on with a continuous ping running in a command window:

ping -t -w 2 192.168.1.1 or whatever IP address you used

The -w 2 parameter forces a lower timeout for the ping answer, this makes easier to get an answer from the router.

You should see at least a few replies from 192.168.1.1. Do this several times to be sure. If you still receive no response, the IP address may be something other than 192.168.1.1.

If you still receive no response, the IP address may have been changed from the default. Disconnect all other machines from the router and run arp in a command window to find out what the IP address is:

arp -a

You should receive a response from the router even if it is on a different subnet than your computer. If you've received a response, the output will give you the IP address of the router. Once you have discovered the IP address of the router, change the IP address of your computer to match the subnet of the router as described above. You should now be able to ping the router and receive a response.

Hi,
thanks for your answer. I forgot to write, that all devices (lan and wlan) works and i can reach all of them.
So my complete network works, but i can't login to the router.

I tried also what you wrote: Pings are all alive. No Problem. Subnet, IP all is correct.

Powered off for 10 Minutes but no chance to log in. My Browser (i tried chrome, firefox and IE; chache cleared) waits and waits .....

Kind regards
Chris

What happens when you try router.asus.com at the URL instead of the IP address?

The same as with the ip. The browser waits and waits ...

Do you recall the length of the userid and password you created for the router? Was it more than 16 characters in length? Can you ssh into the router?

Try to disable pop up blockers and firewalls on your client. Try to Clear all browser cache.

You may need to do a factory reset. Here is the trouble shooting reference from asus support. They recommend turning off windows firewall.

https://www.asus.com/support/faq/109936/

Also, try accessing using another client such as a android, iPhone or tablet. Ask a friend to bring their laptop over and try that.

My PW has 14 caracters. I tried also Laptop and Tablets with different browsers.
Ok. End of this week i try the factory reset.

Thanks and kind regards
Chris

I tried now everything i know. Made 4 resets and flashed the new Merlin FW.
Everything is working. Wired and wireless clients are reachable and have internet connection. Ping to router works.
After every restart i reach the ui for one or two minutes.

I have no special configuration.

Is there anything i could try with ssh? Then i could enable it.
Tomorrow i try a older FW from Merlin.

Kind regards
Chris

Flash an old version didn't solve the problem.
I think i sell this fu..ing Router and by a Netgear x4s when nobody can help me.

Kind regards
Chris

The default IP address for your router is likely 192.168.50.1 or you can use http://router.asus.com

The PDF manual does cite 192.168.1.1 as the default after factory reset but they show earlier in the manual the 192.168.50.1 address after connecting with http://router.asus.com. One good way to check is to do an ipconfig on your PC. If its IP address is in the 192.168.50.xxx range use 192.168.50.1

So, if one does not work try the other. use the reset button or hold the WPS button for 15 seconds while powering up the router to get back to a fresh router. If necessary use the Asus Firmware Restoration tool with the router in recovery mode. Get this to work for you and you will never go back to Netgear!

If the login page doesn't even show, then it means either something on the client computer is blocking it, he's using the wrong IP or the wrong port, or somehow it crashed the httpd service on the router.

I don't know how Asus's token authentication actually works, I gave up trying to undnerstand it last time I tried.

Today i configured the x4s the same way as the Asus. Absolutely no problems. So its an Asus problem.

I tried 4 times factory resets, older Merlin FWs 380.61 till the newest.
No USB device. All devices works local and with internet connection. I tried also different browsers with different systems. Cable and wireless.
Ping on Router work. In arp -a the IP is shown.

I'm not a complete network noob. I know how to find the right ip and make pings use putty and so on.

This weekend i try the rescue tool with original FW. When this doesn't work can i anything do over ssh connection? Restart ui?

Thank you all for help. I hope my english is not too bad (i'm from Austria).

Kind regards
Chris

Your English is fine and much better than mein Deutsch sprechen. I still remember to ask for ein bier bitte and wo ist der w.c. among a few other phrases.

I have flashed Merlin Firmware using tftp command as documented on dd-wrt.com

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_TFTP_Flash

I suspect that is what the rescue tool does. Since you have tried to access the GUI from different clients and browsers with no luck, I suspect you have a lemon.

Did you try all of the ideas presented here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers...ter-accidentally-changing-router-192-168.html

Try clearing browser cache and using http://router.asus.com or https://router.asus.com:8443 OR
http://www.asusnetwork.net/ or https://www.asusnetwork.net:8443
