AI in routers

Oh, please... there is an AI involvement update pending for my UniFi setups and I'm not clicking the Update button before some human feedback is collected. Seems like I don't have to use it and this is a good thing. 🤨

How can you go wrong with an AI core that also provides AI-powered Adaptive QoE! I definitely want it watching all my traffic and sending everything to the mothership for deeper analysis so it can make the best online choices for my family and restricts unwanted behaviors on my router!

PLUS... the AI core looks like this. How cool is that.

It even looks intelligent! Looks like it got ripped out of a UFO, and soldered onto an Asus router motherboard!

I'm not getting any glowing crystals, but AI Flow Control, AI Port Monitoring, AI Channel, etc. Have to make sure all the BS can be disabled before I update. I don't have multiple WAN interfaces nor hundreds of LAN ports or APs and planning to continue taking chances with my own limited brain power. Getting sick of this AI.

Yeah, going to have to take a serious deepdive into their data sharing verbiage and ensure privacy isn't being "accidentally" overlooked. Even then... still don't have much trust that they have us (the product) in their best interest.

It would be a shame if Adaptive QoS 2.0 "AI" would be broken in this router.

I have to make sure domestic violence is not overlooked... 🤪

According to example images and explanation - if by chance you run a private airport the Gateway will be collecting environment and clients/load data from each one of the APs and will be dynamically adjusting the channel per AP for optimal spectrum utilization. Imagine network-wide Auto channel driven by AI engine. Gosh... good I have 4x APs and one wife only potentially approaching with frying pan in her hands. I have to make sure my mouse pointer is at least 2 inches away from this Optimize button at all times.

Not sure what AI ASUS is cooking for home routers, but sounds like common marketing using popular catch words.

There's no Adaptive QoS on the GT-BE19000AI. It has Adaptive QoE, powered by ARK Engine.

This is how AI driven auto channel will work:
"Nobody uses channel 1, let's change to that". Then they ALL change to channel 1.
"Oh, channel 1 is used by all APs, but channel 11 is unused, let's change to that." Then they ALL change to channel 11.
And so it goes on.

The worst problem with AI is that it's terrible when the environment changes, all it's collected data becomes useless, and it takes a lot of time before they are replaced with up to date data, by then the environment has changed again.

Got AI-ed this morning. It's taking care of flows and ports, I'm keeping manual wireless. The Gateway has 2.2GB RAM in use, but I don't remember what was the utilization before. All clients devices happy, wife doesn't say anything. Happy AI driven life... 🤩

Has it rejected your DNS requests yet, “I’m sorry, Dave; I cannot do that. I think you know why.”

It's perhaps usable for a large network with multiple APs and in theory performs more complex tasks. The APs had required firmware update prior to this AI engine, they feed data back to the Gateway, it processes the data and decides global network strategy. There is a statement it works with networks with minimal external interference. Like when you own a stadium and everything wireless there on many levels and acres is yours. You run the AI thing, let it do its thing on all bands and APs, hop in your Ferrari and drive off.

Has it rejected your DNS requests yet

This is a different AI. 🤭

I was actually talking about my neighbors' routers, all running AI. They will work totally independently and can very well cause the situation, I describe
