AiMesh with Mixed official and Merlin's firmware

I have an RT-AX88u running as my router and was successfully using Merlin's firmware, however when I tried to add some XT8's as an AiMesh (one using ethernet backhaul) if just wouldn't add the wireless node. So flashed the AX88u back to stock and successfully configured the AiMesh.

However I would like to go back to using Merlin's on the router if possible. So my question is would this still work as I miss the additional functionality that Merlin's provides.

Hi mate

Not sure if this helps but I run my AX88u on stock, and my two AX56u on Merlin
Why!!!! Well, the stock 56U code isn't out for .386 yet on the ASUS website and I couldn't get them to work on .384 (Latest stock)

So my setup is
AX88U ----- Stock ----- RT-AX88U_3.0.0.4_386
AX56U x2 ------Merlin ------ RT-AX56U_386.1_0
