Alternative to Century Link DSL Combo Modem/Router

Hello. We have Centurylink DSL with a download of 17 MPBS. I am trying to use the following:

Wireless Setup: Wireless Schedule Utilities: Web Activity Log

Advanced setup: (No Secure WIFI) Access Scheduler; Service Blocking; Website Blocking (device)

Century link modem router combos mess up using those features. For example, if I try to set the Access Scheduler on my daughter so she is cut off around 1 AM it causes all of the connected devices to be cut off.

Also, the Web Activity Log is not good it contains jargon I can’t decipher and does not have a good history.

Also, when I use the Wireless Schedule to turn off the entire wifi at lets say 12 midnight before it is even that time it cuts all connected devices off.

Would anyone please know of a modem / router combo or a modem / router via bridge etc. that might achieve this?

Thank you.

You will be better off bridging the CenturyLink Modem/Router and using another router to service your network. I usually recommend Asus routers as they have Parental controls that work for many. A good Asus AX class router would do you well I was on CenturyLink DSL and used an AC66U_B1 which is now not supported.

Thank you. Could you please recommend a DSL modem that would work well with the Asus AX router? And if not too much trouble could you please recommend which Asus AX you think would be best? I want to ditch the old unit I have and start over. Thank you very much either way and thanks for your helpful response.

You can keep the CenturyLink modem/router, turn off the WIFI, set it to bridge mode and hey presto...just a modem. Look at the name plate of your modem/router and go to the CenturyLinh web page to search for how to bridge your device. Once that is done it is a simple matter to connect your new router with an Ethernet cable and set the new router up.

Something like an RT-AX5400 would work. If you are near a Best Buy they have a lower end RT-AX1800 that would work for you.

Get the RT-AX5400 as budget option. AX1800 models have limited firmware features.

Here is what happened. The ASUS RT-AX1800S Dual Band WiFi 6 Extendable Router, Built-in VPN, Smart Home arrived. I plugged it in and then found a short Ethernet and connected the C1100T to the ASUS via the WAN ports. Then I accessed the http://192.168.0.1/ and went into the C1100T Advanced Set up and chose Bridge 201 and I think then tried one other change as it was not working. Then I watched a video and realized that I needed to take the the Ethernet from the C1100T to the iMac via LAN and remove it from the C1100T and plug it into the ASUS router LAN. Now the C1100T won’t work even when I plug it back in as it was before doing anything and I can’t navigate to the www.routerasus.com and/or the other URL that was provided for ASUS. Essentially, I have no Internet at all. I messed up. I can’t get the C1100T to even go back to the original settings after depressing the reset button. I will say that all blue lights are on the ASUS I just can’t get to the ASUS configuration site. And my wife it irritated with me. If anyone could please help I would be eternally grateful.

If a factory reset doesn't work with the C1100T, maybe check if it has the correct PPPoE credentials? If they are empty you can get them from phone/chat support.

Beyond that you can get a used C3000z or C4000BZ off of ebay for $30-$50

Resetting the Asus solved the problem. Up and running. Unfortunately, the parent controls are extremely limited having only
Enable block all devices and Enable Time Scheduling. Still working with router to see if it really has advantages to the Centurylink modem / router.
