Any performance advantage using Merlin with AX86U mesh system

I've always sworn by ASWRT since my networking needs have been simple. I upgraded from AC routers to an AX86U and AX68U (node) and use them both in a wireless mesh system. The reason I never bothered with Merlin were the numerous threads from more advanced users having a variety of issues as opposed to those who weren't with stock firmware. Any thoughts?

No performance advantages. Run Asuswrt, keep it simple. AiMesh is closed source Asus component, no changes in Asuswrt-Merlin.

No. If you use the forum search you'll see the general recommendation is to use stock Asus firmware on the AiMesh nodes. Main reason being many if not most of the Asus-Merlin specific features are disabled or not available on the AiMesh node. The other issue is that AiMesh is closed source so generally little to no modification of it by Asus-Merlin firmware developer.
