Arrival of DOCSIS 4

Times change...

I guess...

🤷‍♂️

My cable tech told me to wait on buying a home cable modem as DOCSIS 4 is around the corner. But so is Christmas. Any info, rumors or town criers know the status?
Who is your ISP. Comcast will probably be first. I think there's some areas that already have it. Spectrum will probably be next.

Why do you want DOCSIS 4 though? I have a feeling it's going to have some early or adapter pains.

Rogers launching WiFi 7 it seems... new Xfinity router, available with the Pro 4G plan. Which DOCSIS level are these?

Do you mean the xb10? If so then those are DOCSIS4.0. those have been out for a little while though. They aren't a modem but a modem router combo AKA a gateway. It also has telephone both via a rj11 port and I think even has dect to connect wirelessly directly to the phones. See link below

Yeah looks like it's the XB10 that's being used for this.

Everything with Comcast has growing pains. Everything is pain, all the time.
The Tech advised to maybe wait for DOCSIS 4 rather than buy a new DOCSIS 3.1. His advice was based on economics. I have been with Comcast since 2009 and there is always an issue that never gets completely resolved. As soon as I can find another vendor, I'm gone.

With DOCSIS 4.0, there's a lot to consider over in the carrier/ISP space - good insight into the challenges...

@Punch Cards I wouldn't hold on to much your isp states.
First, our s33 has performed perfectly since purchase.
Now the negatives:
Exactly two years ago 7/2023, comcrap stated 2GB dl/1GB ul upgraded service availability in my area, Northern California, I purchased an Arris s33 and returned all the isp equipment (modem xb8, three tv tuners), and waited patiently. As of this morning comcrap is only offering maximum 1GB/40MB.
Last year Race fiber 10GB/10GB for $150/month was installed within most of Northern Cal, and of the ten homes on my street that had Race installed, only two homes have kept their services, due to constant issues and "surprise" fees and taxes on their equipment (ex: even if you didn't install their "free" telephone service you were forced to pay fees and taxes on the telephone equipment and service).
