Asus AXE16000 router.asus.com working but not 192.168.1.1

Did Asus make the router.asus.com the only way to login to this router? 192.168.1.1 is not working saying the site cannot be reached

The default IP address is 192.168.50.1 unless you've changed it.

You posted a similar question in the Merlin forum, but that was for a different model of router.

That worked, thank you! I'm getting confused by asusrouter.com vs router.asus.com, are they both the same? Router.asus.com seems to be successful more often

Asus added lots more aliases in recent years. They all resolve to the same IP address so they should be functionally equivilent.

router.asus.com is the legacy hostname, and should no longer be used. It was conflicting with the HSTS policy of the asus.com domain, hence Asus registered new dedicated domains such as www.asusrouter.com to replace it.
