New Around Here
Hey guys,

I'm from New Zealand. Got gigabit fibre connection and setup using my DSL-AC68U and VOIP with same internet provider setup through Grandstream HT802.

Everything's running smooth as far as I can tell except one issue I'm constantly having - My mobile phone Oneplus 6t which is connected to the 5ghz band of the router keeps dropping connection and reconnecting. In the router's log I see the following -

The full log list is much larger. This is an excerpt covering repeated errors I can see.

The device 8E:FD:D0:94:CF:60 is my Oneplus 6T I've confirmed. Mum's got a Oneplus Nord but I can't see that anywhere in the log list. I also don't notice any visible issues on my PC connected via Ethernet cable. I haven't experienced any connection drops on PC.

The list also shows an error related to restarting DDNS, but I'm not using DDNS (DDNS client is disabled under WAN settings).

I've tried forgetting WIFI connection on my phone and reconnecting. Also turned off "intelligent network connection" & "intelligently select best wifi".

There is one thing I noticed - in router's System Log > Ipv6 I can see my Oneplus 6T in the Ipv6 LAN device list along with my PC. Can't see the Oneplus Nord or any other devices there. Not sure if that has something to do with it?

If anyone can help guide me to get things running smoothly, it would be great!

Thank you

Saadi

It's very common to see this behaviour from mobile devices when they are in sleep mode. Notice how for the most part the messages are exactly 10 minutes apart. This is typical of the mobile waking up to check for notifications, updates, etc. So unless it's happening while you're actively using the device I'd say it's probably normal.

The repeating DDNS message is a bug that has been reported on other Asus routers. For example here. It only seems to occur when IPv6 is enabled on the router.

Thanks Collin (Part of the Furniture) :D

The drops were happening even when actively using the phone. Would literally see WIFI logo disappear and wait for a second or two then connect to 4G network then connect back to WIFI, meanwhile the webpage or video or whatever would refresh.

On the DHCP Server I gave my phone a static IP. I haven't noticed any WIFI drops on my phone since (it's been less than 24hrs). Will keep an eye out, maybe that fixed the issue...?

Do I need IPv6 for any part of regular internet use (browsing website, streaming videos on youtube, watch anime, download stuff, torrent, gaming etc)? Will it affect internet speed if disabled?

I (like a lot of people) don't have access to IPv6 so it's not an option. I've never found it to be a problem. Whether IPv4 is any better or worse than IPv6 will probably be down to how your ISP has implemented it. You'll have to test it for yourself.

I seem to remember there being similar posts for this particular phone. For example: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/an...s-each-sec-small-interrupts.76592/post-734778

I'll test again Asuswrt RC3 when officially released with IPv6. For now, if you don't need it - Disable.

Will it affect internet speed if disabled?

No.
