Entware was developed for OpenWRT where the root user is root.

For me, I just used the -u switch with the various NUT component executables to specify my router login ID.

Glad you got it working via the config files. I may go that route too. Seems cleaner.

@kramttocs just looking at your post 39 above and saw you were using the -u option. Did NUT just up and stop working out of the blue on you? After a firmware upgrade?

Yeah, that's the odd part - it should have already been using my login user per the -u arg.

I'll need to double check my logs but I think it stopped around the 14th so no firmware update then. I did recently install yazdhcp and switch the wireguard server from openvpn but neither of those have any obvious connection.

I restarted a couple times and reinserted the USB cable but one thing I didn't do was shut down completely via the physical switch.
Possible it just got in a bad state and a software restart wasn't good enough.

Do commands like "ups.beeper.status" typically get persisted on cheaper Tripp-Lite routers ? Is the reason to install NUT on the router to be able to reapply configurations after reboots, or is a Debian laptop an easier one-time fix?

I've never changed the beeper settings or really any settings so can't answer that (can't imagine it wouldn't persist) but the reason I install NUT server is just for continuous monitoring of the UPS and periodic self tests.

For a one time setting change, I'd see if you can install the manufacturer software and configure it that way.
