Asus needs a wizard to help users select a router for their needs...

With a quite board selection of Asus-routers that at least on paper don't seem to have major differences, they sure would need a wizard to help users to find some suitable routers for their needs...

Was recently looking for a new router to my neighbours (retired couple) that don't have big requirements for it, except the need to cover space in their house and yard... Noticed it wasn't easy to look in Asus product list for a suitable router.
(As I have Asus myself and do know that I'm maintaining their router as well - I did want to get them an Asus as well to make it easier for me in admin view)

Also after now on this and other forums been following discussions on what Asus router to get - I've started to wonder myself also that Asus sure would need a better guide to what router one should choose. Optimal would be a wizard that ask some (simple) questions and based on these then recommends some models.

Or, is there anything like this available? As said, pure spec-sheets don't give significant differences between a lot of the models Asus offers.

Ideally, if you are going to support the network, you should choose the equipment.

Consider the RT-AX86U (3.0.0.4.388_* fw) or the RT-AX86U Pro (3.0.0.6.102_* fw with SDN VLANs). Prefer the Pro model/firmware if you think you might add an Aimesh node. And don't configure/use DFS bands.

For a retired couple with few active devices - I would go with Easy Button solution like Eero, Nest, Deco. Perhaps 2-pack is good enough, phone App control. I have a non-tech friend with similar low requirements, their Deco is wireless on 100/30 ISP line. It covers the house and the back yard. It was like $100 some popular back then AC-class mesh set on sale. I'm the support in case something happens, but it just works there for 2+ years maintenance free.
