Asus Router App connection problem on iOS device

Not sure if this is the right section to post this but i couldn't see where else it would be appropriate on the forum.
My issue is not with the router but the Asus Router App i have been using for a long time on my iOS devices.
I recently upgraded to an ipad pro 11 M4 so as i do with my other devices i installed ASUS Router app from App Store
Trouble is, unlike previously, where the app would detect my existing ASUS router and ask login details to connect to it
I get a Welcome splash screen followed by two options
a) Setup (which is to set up a new network)
b) Manage (to manage an existing network)

I select the second option to manage my existing network, thinking it will ask for my login details but it opens another page
saying "Be ready to to manage" followed by
1)open your mobile devices wireless settings
2)Find & connect to your ASUS router's SSID (which i am already connected)
3)After a successful connection to the SSID, return to ASUS Router App.
4) Turn off the VPN connection on the current mobile device (not the network device end)

if the above steps do not work please reboot the router and repeat the steps mentioned above!

this is doing my head in! what am i doing wrong here? what do i need to do to connect to my router?

It appears, the Asus app thinks the mobile device is not connected to the Asus router by WiFi. Have you connected the mobile device to the router by WiFi? Not to an AiMesh or AP node, but direct to the main router's WiFi. So, try disconnecting the WiFi, then follow the apps directions of connecting to the router's WiFi then return to the app and see if it indicates a connection.

Interesting... I am not having any issues with my iPhone 14 with iOS 26 beta and the Asus router app.

Are you using the router default address of 192.168.50.1? Are you using WPA2-Personal on the router?

Are you running Merlin firmware? The app is not fully compatible with Merlin, to the point I'll experience the exact same problem as you only on android.
I gave up with it ages ago, and prefer logging in directly.

Yes, i am using latest Merlin firmware, but i have 3-4 other iOS devices running with no problems.....just to test, i uninstalled ASUS App on one of them and reinstalled again to see...now that cannot connect either! it must be the updated App causing the problem when installed first time, as there was no problem when the App was updated on devices running it previously..

Yes, using default address of 192.168.50.1 and WPA2-Personal.

I do not have AiMesh or AP node....i connect to the router on default "ASUS" SSID...
i did try disconnecting from the router by selecting "forget this network" as the password was saved but that did not change anything..
when i got connected and went to the App, i faced the same page....

Any VPN applications running? Any third party DNS applications running which could be steering the app away from the 192.168.50.1 address?

I have an app which allows me to ping addresses. Its called iNetTools and be warned it has a ton of ads and popups, but it does allow me to ping devices or perform a dns lookup. You might try that app to see if you can successfully ping the 192.168.50.1 address.

No VPN or third party DNS applications....

It seems like the problem is updated ASUS App version if installed fresh....devices already running the App which update with latest version have no issues...

On your iPhone or Tablet forget the WIFI network of the Asus router. Start the Asus router app and select manage router. Go back to settings on the device and connect to the router. Back to the Asus router app and connect to manage existing router. You will be asked for user name and password and several other questions. Do not enable remote connection!

This does work with Merlin firmware. I deleted the app on my iPhone and added it again.

Did you close the Asus app before you started? You do know how to close apps on iOS?
