Asus RT-AC1900p issue

Krisspy

New Around Here
Hi guys,

I just recently purchased this Asus router from my BB and so far I couldn't have been happier. I'm no techie nor do I plan on utilizing most of the bells and whistles that came with this router (I wouldn't know how really) Only 1 small problem however... I can't seem to access the Kaspersky website. I've tried it on another laptop and phones that are connected in the same network to this router and I keep getting the message err_connection_refused.

I'm pretty sure I narrowed it down to the router because if I setup my phone as a hotspot and connect my laptop, I can visit Kasperskys website without a problem. I tried it at work by connecting to the wifi there and it works fine too. Now I know that if I have any malware or viruses, it could be one of the reasons. However, I can access all other antivirus websites just fine and I even did a clean install on one of my laptops.

So what if I just download kaspersky through another network? I tried that, I got it to install but as soon as I'm connected to my Asus router to download any updates, it won't connect to the Kaspersky servers. Seems like there is some setting that's preventing Kaspersky to properly get through the router :(

Anyone have any ideas?

I don't think this is router related as I have no issues going to the Kaspersky site or updating the antivirus.

Make sure the clock on your PC and router are set correctly as if they are not correct then this can cause issues with Kaspersky updating.

You could also try the official Kaspersky forum.

Trouble connecting to a specific website can mean that the site has blacklisted the IP address you are receiving from your ISP (You will receive a different IP when you change what is connected to the modem...for example connecting a new router or connecting directly to the modem with your PC/laptop). Try to get your ISP to release that address. Power down both your modem and router for about a 1/2 hour, then power up the modem and let it sync, then power up the router.

Hmm, I've tried checking the clock and time and they're correct. I've had to resort to using Nortons free trial for the time being.

If I'm connected to my phone's hotspot (or any other wifi outside my condo), my laptop can visit usa.kaspersky.com without a problem. Once I connect to the asus router, i get the connection refused error from chrome/edge. I can replicate this on all my devices at home. So far though, Kaspersky is the only website I've had trouble visiting.

Is there something else perhaps I'm not seeing? I'll try the kaspersky forums too later.

I can try this later too. I didn't think of this as well since I assumed I wasn't have setup to have a static ip. My ISP is TWC if that matters. Would powering down/up both modem and router as you described automatically acquire a new address? Otherwise I guess I can try to get a hold of my ISP to do that for me. Would you known if they'll give me any trouble for requesting so?

Unless you are paying extra for a static IP, you will be getting your WAN IP via DHCP from you ISP and the procedure should help. (ISPs can be different, but 1/2 hour offline will generally work).

As far as contacting your ISP, the anecdotal evidence isn't good about ISPs recognizing that their addresses may be blacklisted. I'd probably just say you are debugging a problem and could they force a new IP address for you.

could they force a new IP address for you.

I had this same "blacklist" issue a few months back, and solved it by forcing a new MAC address on the router's WAN menu. Re-booting then also forced a new Net-facing IP Address and presto! The block was gone.

I have forgotten who suggested that, but it was surely on this forum.
