Release ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_52294 (2025/10/28)

  1. Install YazDHCP if your FW supports it.
  2. Drag and drop custom_clientlist and dhcp_staticlist from/to /jffs/nvram/.
  3. Same as 2 but using command line export/import of file contents via SSH.

Option 1 (needs SCP) and Option 2 (needs Asuswrt-Merlin) are not available in stock Asuswrt. Option 3 is available.

This need happens instantly with RT-AC86U. Most die after internal voltage regulator failure without any prior trouble warnings. You get Power and half lit LAN4 LED. Replace before it happens. The chance of failure is higher than any other ASUS model.
While I respect your opinion of course, mine are not broken, so I'm not fixing them. Especially when they work virtually 100% of the time i.e. there's no fiddling at all which frankly surprises me i.e. I'd been warned Aimesh is not perfect, but I've not found that to be the case.

I had this fw installed at my node RT-AC86U. It was not stable in mesh setup with RT-BE86U main router, which has Merlin fw. Newest fw to RT-BE86U was not stable either.

Having now tried numerous times unsuccessfully to update from 51967 (tried both iOS app and remote login) I hafta ask if anyone else has had trouble with this.

Yes I'm remote from it and in the absence of an idea here I will have to try in person in about two weeks.
I've now tried again to update my router, this time "in-person and on-site" at my remote house and it still doesn't work, but I have to now assume that it is due to my [vacation home] location being in my Spectrum digital cable ISP service being in "seasonal status" mode which restricts data flow somehow to only my cameras and security devices. Dunno how the service might recognize my router's attempt to download firmware but I guess that is the issue.

In any case I will now either download the firmware separately and do a manual fw update when next on-site, or just wait until next spring when my seasonal status ends and I have full Specturm access again.

So I clicked on the flashing update icon from the main page and proceeded to install. But at the end it had installed 3.0.0.4.386_52062 which I see mentioned in another thread but not on the product page. I went to the Asus website and downloaded 3.0.0.4.386_52294 and tried several manual updates. Each time the process would start with applying settings then a popup box saying firmware upgrade unsuccessful but with a normal progress bar as if the upgrade was proceeding. yet on reboot I still show 3.0.0.4.386_52062

Your past posting history indicates past posts about the RT-AC68U, not the RT-AC86U that this discussion is about.

If you have an RT-AC68U then see the appropriate thread for that router:
PS: Generally the router's firmware will try to prevent you from flashing incorrect router firmware, such as firmware from a completely different router model. Do not try to brute force the wrong firmware onto the router, doing so may brick the router and or cause the router not to run properly.

Went to my remote house again with my laptop, having failed (or so I thought) with my iPad earlier, and was surprised to learn it had updated, both primary and node AC86Us. Dunno how it said "failed" earlier but I try not to argue with success. :p
