Asus RT-AC88U wifi problems

ShuhDonk

New Around Here
I purchased this router this week, been up and running for a few days now and all is good except 2.4 ghz wifi. it will keep popping up and disappearing in the list of available networks, mostly not in the list at all though. 5ghz is working perfect. When you do get 2.4 up and connected the connection is not consistent. Webpages will time out or not load but then things work nice and fast for a second and then dead again. I have used wifi analyzer on my phone and there is no other network showing but my routers networks. Wifi analyzer does the same thing with 2.4 as well, it comes and goes. Ideas what may be wrong?

firmware 3.0.0.4.380_1354

The crazy thing is I purchased this router because my R7000 started doing this same behavior. I have had the R7000 for over a year and its been excellent, never any issues and then the 2.4ghz wireless started doing this same thing. So what on my network or in my home could cause this.. because I doubt I have two routers with bad 2.4ghz channels.

thanks all

Just run through your in house electrical devices and see if there's one that interferes (microwave, xmas lights, baby cam). When you have neighbours you could check if they recently bought/started using equipment like that.

Have you tested all wireless channels and does the issue persist?

I have tried only a couple different ones.. I will try the rest though.

** tried them all, and legacy mode and 20mhz only and 40mhz only.. same results.

Perhaps a neighbour is using something that's impacting your network.

Could be, but to the point where it makes my 2.4ghz network completely unusuable? This started about 1.5 weeks ago, is the reason I bought this new router.. I just hooked up my old r7000 and set it up as an ap.. I moved it throughout the house and same results on its 2.4 network. So crazy.. I can't figure out what could be interfering with it all of a sudden.

Okay, I just figured it out, its my new light ballast for my aquarium.. it just dawned on me to try it.. sure enough, turned it off and bingo... works perfectly! Craziness.

Interesting. I saw a few news stories over Christmas in the UK about LED Christmas lights affecting Wi-Fi performance.

Might be power and not the light persay.

That aquarium light might be effecting power flow causing sags...I've seen it before!
