ASUS RT-AX86U Pro, connections with fixed ip cut of in seconds

I replaced an older AC68U with the AX model, bofh with wrt Merlin software. Most same config all over with small differences.

But I must have missed something. From the first day the router was on air, I lost connection in a cloud wifi app I use to control several power units. After restarting the router I god connection a short time, but then lost again.

My first teori was poor wifi connection, but it seems to be the same if the units have -35 or -75 dbm. Changing limit to -85 result still same problem. Then I checked off something I find wrong, the smart connect rule as I found noe actual rule. But still same problem.

All the units we are talking about have the newest firmware and there are no changes in use since the AC68U period.

I enclose pictures I hope can do it easier to suggest a solution. Anyhow there is something in the config that restart wifi connection with fixed ip devices every 5-15 seconds. How to fix?

First try disabling “802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode” on 2.4GHz band. Then reduce Channel Bandwidth from 20/40 to just 20.
Did the first part - disabling 802.11 and it seems to work, but I must test for a while before I can tell success.
I am aware of that asus app can't be used with merlin software. My app is "Shelly cloud".

Fixing the channel also helps (instead of Auto). Disable Roaming Assistant (-70dBm). You have clients with weak below -70dBm signal and one with very weak -82dBm.

Thanks,
Yes, some are 20 m through a thick isolated wall and through a terracce floor and last through a leca brick wall. But the old AC router had no problem with same setup (20, 40). My experience is that the AX router work much different on wifi and that's expected. Now I use -85 dBm and can change to max -90 if it fails again.

This has been a help, I’m in the same exact boat, going from AC68 to AX86 pro and a few 2.4 devices that had no issues with the AC are being squirrelly. One Wi-Fi printer I can chalk up to range and I’ll have to try turning off the roaming to see if that fixes that issue, though I also decided I’d throw some money at the issue and get a RP-AX58 to mesh with.

But the other client is definitely not a range issue, it’s in a room across the hallway and practically line of sight. I tried changing the channel to static (went with 11 because there’s nothing close by in that range) and turned off the AX on 2.4, it’s reconnected without having to reboot anything this time.

Why you even have Roaming Assistant enabled on a single AIO router? Where your devices are expected to roam?
