When you download a file, Windows adds a BLOCKED marker to it. This is a significant issue for developers when users report that a program fails to install or, despite installation, doesn't function correctly. The same applies to drivers.

It is a nuisance because Windows does not distinguish between safe and harmful files. It just blocks everything you download, which is why you sometimes get the "Are you sure you want to open this file?" warning.

Right-click on the file you just downloaded, go to Properties, and check the Unblock button at the bottom if it says it was blocked because it came from the internet. If you don't do this, the installer will not have the required privileges, leading to an erroneous installation.

To prevent Windows from automatically blocking downloaded files, see the guide "Enable or Disable Block Files Downloaded from Internet in Windows."

I took the bait from Asus and accepted the upgrade to my two ASUS RT-BE92U. Four hours in and everything seems to be fine. I looked at the ASUS product support page and the newest firmware that I accepted is not listed publicly at this moment.

I recently discovered and joined snbforum due to my online research concerning the frustrating IoT network disconnection issue with my newish ASUS RT-BE92U. I purchased and installed this router on 10/04/25 and enjoyed it's stability on the Main, IoT and Guest networks I had setup for our needs at our house, then the update ASUS issued on 10/31/25 happened. I left autoupdate on and trusted ASUS would eventually take care of the problem and now I see they have pushed out a new firmware version.
I had moved a couple of my IoT devices to the Main network (which never disconnected) and would reboot whenever the issue randomly occurred to reconnect the other less critical devices. Now that I have the new 3.0.0.6.102_38980 firmware update installed, I will repopulate the IoT nework the way it was and monitor for issues.
Thanks to all who have contributed to this conversation and those who offered possible solutions. I almost tried some of the solutions suggested on this forum and reddit but instead chose to "ride it out" and wait for ASUS to solve this.
This router is my first ASUS product (coming from using NETGEAR exclusively) and intially I was very pleased with it's performance and the ablilty to tweak numerous settings. So far I have not changed many settings from default and decided to leave it alone until the issue was resolved. I look forward to learning from this forum and elsewhere how to fine tune and take advantage of all the capabilities this router has.

It took me a little bit to decipher what you had written, but I think what you said occurred to me as well tonight.

I had just loaded the YouTube website on my PC (using a wired connection) and was not able to navigate to any other link. I was able to log into my router and it was saying that the internet connection was still up. Using PING on the Network Tools tab, I was not able to ping www.google.com or other web addresses, but I was able to ping 1.1.1.1 and other IP addresses. I thought about restarting the router, but went the lazy route and decided to see if I can get it working another way.

I managed to get things working again, by going to WAN -> Internet Connection and then clicking "Apply". After that, it worked as it should. I think this is what Texasguy wrote that he did. Sorry Texasguy, I find your posts difficult to read without punctuation and without using upper case to mark the start of a new sentence.

Looking at the log, there were these entries from about the time things stopped working:
Nov 23 11:03:23 wan_up: Restart DDNS
Nov 23 11:03:23 dhcp client: renew 100.xx.xxx.xxx/255.xxx.xxx.x via 100.xx.xxx.x for 1800 seconds.
(The first IP address is my WAN address)
The actual local time when this happened was 22:03:23, so the log entries are 11 hours different to other entries around it and look like they're GMT, rather than local.

If it is related or not, I'm using DNS over TLS and have specified 6 servers. I don't use the ISP default DNS server and have specified 2 DNS servers further up the page.

On the up side, my wireless connections have been running stably over the past 4.5 days since I upgraded to .38980 :D

Sorry I use speech to text on my phone kinda lazy. I know I was using the same firmware update 38980 router showed Internet connection opened up app diagnostics showed Internet connection, modem, and router, but all devices would get no Internet even after reboot. echo ping test to google on the router was working did 50 packets. Had to connect a modem directly decided to download Merlin needed to use the Internet had no time. Still Roar showed Internet connection after Merlin install, but no devices were getting Internet. I use preset DNS over TLS hit apply and then I lost all Internet. A blank white page popped up and then all devices got Internet again.

Hmmm, sounds similar, but not quite the same.

If it happens to me again, I will try rebooting the modem and leave the router alone.
(In my case, I have a fibre connection and an NTD rather than a modem, but pretty much the same thing: convert the WAN signal to an ethernet signal. Something could have got remotely reconfigured with that.)

Ok forget my posts about no Internet spectrum cable Internet sucks intermittent Internet was the cause. Finally got an Internet outage today shows connected to Internet. But spectrum says it’s intermittent. Till they fix it. Which will be never happen, packet loss uploaded up to 30% all the time so please forget my post not the router firmware
