ASUS RT-BE92U

This router is very picky. Many combinations of settings will cause the 6ghz band to run around 30-70Mbps. I had to factory reset, create my IOT and Guest networks again. Then the primary SSID began working a bit better. Enabling MLO currently allows the best performance for me.

Big note: You need the absolute latest OS and drivers for WiFi7 to work. Im talking Linux kernel 6.12+ or Win11 24H2+. If you don't have cutting edge OS and drivers then you will consistently see better performance on the 5Ghz spectrum.
I am not asking for high end performance, but no random disconnects or crashes to start

I'm running MLO just fine. I'm not experiencing any issues like you described right now. So it's possible. If you're not able to get stable after factory reset and careful config building then you might want to reach out to ASUS. Get that warranty support. If it's fixable with software, complaining puts pressure on the software development team. Which is sometimes needed.

using 6ghz?

using 6ghz?
Yes, like I mentioned earlier: I was struggling to get good performance on 6ghz but I was using Linux kernel 6.11 and when I updated to 6.12 it began working really well. I also have a Win10 and a Win11 system where I had similar experience. The Win10 system currently operates faster on 5ghz than 6. Where the Win11 system can use 6ghz just fine. So in my experience the problem is not the AP but the client software needs to support the hardware.

Edit: I also have a pixel 8 pro that gets awful performance despite showing connected via MLO.

Edit edit: Despite being up to date my phone is showing version 6.1 which is unlikely to have full support for wifi 7 features

'uname -a
Linux localhost 6.1.99-android14'

well my problems are more basic, current uptime is 10h, WLAN became unresponsive minutes ago.
My GT-AX6000 had an uptime of >100d, no network disconnect, before I upgraded it to the 3006 and has had 5d uptime since, so sure looks like a 92 problem.

1) Random crash - don't see any other messages regarding what caseud it

i'll be turning MLO off now... see where that leads.

MLO off, still disconnects, could also be the Windows host... it's only a 6e Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz Driver Version 23.120.0.3 Win 24H2
weird with such a common card?

will report back on the reboots without MLO.

I'm eyeing to upgrade from my RT-AX86U (non-Pro) to the BE92U and hope you guys that have the RT-BE92U can help me with a question regarding Guest networks and VPN:

Does the RT-BE92U support guest networks that can be set up to a specific VPN?

My use case is that I have family visiting relatively frequently from Germany, when they log into my wifi (US based) their google, etc starts suggesting US content. I could of course install a VPN on each device, but I thought it might be much easier to set up a guest network that routes everything through a german based VPN-proxy, so they just connect their phones, tablets, etc. to that guest network and don't see much change.

It seems the "Pro" designation of previous routers meant that only they have the guest network pro functionality that offers that (and my RT-AX86U doesn't ), but the information on the ASUS website about the RT-BE92U is confusing... It states that " This feature requires upgrading your ASUS router to firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34312 or above." which is the case, but at the top of the page ( https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1053601/ ), the RT-BE92U is not listed even though it's on firmware 3.0.0.6.102_37526 currently and the site claims to be updated 2025/04/01.

Hope anybody who has that router already, can help me out here.
Thanks!

You can do Guest Network to VPN on your RT-AX86U running Asuswrt-Merlin and YazFi script.

It's available in AMTM. I personally wouldn't replace good working RT-AX86U with RT-BE92U.

I can't find VLAN option on RT-BE92U with 3006.102.4_beta1

Most likely because this feature is not available on RT-BE92U:

possibly different bands and max Tx power levels. Don't.
And maybe different power (50 cycle vs, 60 cy)

Is it ok to purchase this from Germany

It's not OK. The EU router will have much weaker 2.4GHz radio and limited channels selection on 5GHz band compared to routers sold in your region. Power supply is perhaps not a concern, most are global 110-240V 50/60Hz.

I bought one last week here in Australia . Setup for me was easy enough, however im not yet 100% satisfied with the speeds im getting. I have a 1gb down subscription and wifi d/l speed on my iphone 15 is around 500 mbps when right next to the router using 6ghz. Other devices using 5ghz bouncing around 250-300 mbps in the same room.

My Steam Deck gets only 150 mbps down when sitting next to the router.

My laptop connected via ethernet directly into one of the 2.5g LAN ports manages to saturate the bandwidth though.

Maybe im missing something in the wifi settings? MLO is on. I have tried it off and get much the same outcomes. Would it be worth installing the Merlin beta?

can't you just overwrite this in software, or is it hardware locked?
