New Around Here
Hello,

My Asus RT-N56U just died, and I need to replace it. I want it to be future proof, so AC is a must. I've read a lot of bad comments on here about the AC87U, but I want to make sure I have a router that will last for at least a few years.

Right now I have
  • 1 NAS
  • 1 PS4
  • 2 laptops
  • 2 cellphones
  • 1 Boxee media player
  • 1 Chromecast
  • 1 iPad
and a 100/100 connection.

Do you think I should get the AC87U or AC68U? Is the AC87U better after the latest firmware?

Thanks in advance

For basic routing, the RT-AC87U may work no problem with the latest firmware. I would recommend the RMerlin versions.

If you just want something to work period, the RT-AC68U will be better right now.

But you will be giving up some features that the RT-AC87U offers above the RT-AC68U at this point in time.

This is without taking the price difference into consideration too.

If possible, buy both and return the lessor router for your needs.
