Anyone, is there some known issue with the current/posted V2 test results? I ask because "Shikami" posted this comment "I think this router tested perfectly, unlike the E4200v2..."

There is no "issue" with the E4200v2, per se. However, when comparing today's router and also its previous version, it is lacking to me in comparison; actually very lacking when you consider all the factors of a router except NAS transfers.

When Mr. Higgins had this in his article: "Unidirectional throughput is 10 - 15% lower than the chart-topping RT-N56U. But the thing that is sure to cause some people to think that the 66U's routing code is broken is that simultaneous bidirectional throughput is only ~ 800 Mbps. Nothing's broken, folks. It's more throughput than anyone will ever use."

This by no means means the RT-N66U is broken, of course not. This is what to expect, at least, with today's routers, cost, performance, etc. Hence, my statement about it testing perfectly.

There were a lot of posts about the newest firmware in the other thread (the one you started) about it.
As of now, it seems mixed reactions, although more people with issues than not (at least three people say it works fine for them whereas a number of others say it is unstable and causing problems unlike the previous release).
I have not gotten around to it yet since I have been busy with other things the past few nights.

No problems here so far with latest fw. nat loopback now works. Have been running with 100mW for 2 days now without issues. As with others, still need to know what the safe limit is.

Been running the RT N-66 for 3 days now , everything works well , faster than the wndr 3700 v-1 it replaces ,transfer speeds are 10-15 mbps faster than 3700 , reaches spots that were dead with 3700 .
Like the gui , many more options than the netgear 3700 , so far I'm impressed , only thing missing is the traffic meter . Just hope it lasts

Stock it runs at 40mw ,I have it running at 60 mw , when I set it it said something about not going over 40 mw , wonder why ?
Anyhow seems to reach everywhere at 40 and 60mw don't think I'll run mine any higher .
Mine came with latest FW installed from the factory

I am planning to buy this router for small firm network which really requires wireless performance & range. But what really keeps me from buying this router is the http GUI connection. Why did ASUS make such an insecure connection to the router? A simple https access and everything would be fine.

Does someone know a secure way to access the router without transmitting the login/password unencrypted?

thx very much for the hint. I will give it a try. Actually I intended to use the vendors firmware with official support... had a problem with DDWRT on my old Netgear unit which stopped RADIUS support and I do not want any surprises...

i agree dd-wrt has spun out of control since the early days. i can assure you that toastman's tomato releases are rock solid and constantly getting more features added (if you want them).

Hi Adam i have now done some more testing here are my results:
First i have tried 3 different brands of usb drives and there is no difference in how the router loses connections when connecting with the dns / loopback.
Second i tried to restore to factory settings and tested , and i reflashed and tested , then i reflashed again tested, with the same results with the usb dns/loopback problem.
Third i found two more things that's wrong.
Nr1 when starting from scratch with no settings and then trying to assign in dhcp a ip adress to a mac you can only enter 4 entries no more !!! there should be 32 if im not wrong? so dhcp is bust!! However when im using my old settings file that i set up using a earlier firmware there is not any problem to add more than 4 as i already have like 15 assigned
NR2 the usb led on the front of the router never ever lights up
Now i have a question to you regarding the strength setting on the wifi, Is it so that the router sets my geographical location auto ex for me Sweden and as a result i can`t set my mw higher than 100mw as im in Europe. Because i can`t find anywhere to set my location manually so i can test the 500mw ???
I`ve attached my config file that I'm using for now that's set up on a previous firmware, So i can use more than 4 assigned mac/ip adresses in dhcp server.

I think range matters almost as much as throughput. I think range should be included in the tests.

u can use inSSDIer to check, more accurate than bars.
