5ghz. Sorry screen shot came out way to small. I did unplug a roku, that was showing up in this graph, I'm using channel 165 Asus 5g, the RSSI came in at -54 to -48.

I would love to try this on the levono, but, don't want to lose, the printer, by connecting Lenovo to 5Ghz. I'll bet I can change the Lenovo to 5Ghz without losing the 2.4 on the printer.

The 2.4 graph shows allot of traffic & I can see why speeds are so erratic.
I guess the three in the graph show bad RSSI, because of the distance? Approx how far away can a 5 ghz be & show up?

Thanks
Rico

Here are the things that worked for me:
1. Edit transmission strength. Depends on jurisdiction. You can find various resources on it if you dig.
2. Change the 5 GHz to a DFS channel:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#5_GHz_(802.11a/h/j/n/ac/ax)

DFS channels share the same frequency as certain radars, but your router can use them if they're unoccupied. They're great because routers often don't use them unless you specifically configure them to. If you can't select DFS channels, it's related to the country codes and regulations that came with your router. Again, also editable and depends on jurisdiction.

After these tweaks I could get 180 mbit speeds out of a 200 mbit line in a majority of the WiFi range.

I'm using both 2.4 GHz band and a 5 GHz band, but the 2.4 is a lost cause. There's too much WiFi interference on the band and speeds are not very good.

Good news setting the laptop to 5ghz, i did not lose, wifi printing & can still print from the laptop.

Looking at inssider, & finding, a place where no other networks overlapped, like channel 48, or 165, with rssi btwn -54 & -48 gave crap download speeds, at 20 40 or 80 bandwidth

The wiki (USA), Asus did not include DFS channels, or they don't appear for me. I was confused by the column for USA, some channels said "YES" & others said "DFS", not sure what YES refers to. I did see DFS thread here, including Merlins commnents.

What I should have said is Epson does not support 5Ghz. While Lenovo was 5Ghz the printer said not supported, then click on network's activated Asus typed in password, & printer can now print via wifi.
So by me activating Asus (2.4) from lenovo, the lenovo is now using 2.4 Ghz band? Then it like a toggle Asus, Asus_5g activating Asus, Asus-5g no longer connected, & I'm using Asus 2.4.

Can I put Lenovo to 5Ghz, & not break the printers connection to wifi????????
Rico, it sounds to me like you are confusing the settings you make in the router, on its "Wireless - General" page, with settings made in Windows by clicking the Wi-Fi icon in the System Tray (lower right).

Let's deal with them one at a time.

ROUTER: On the "Wireless" page of the GUI configuration interface you will see a line labelled "Frequency" followed by a field that says either 2.4GHz or 5GHz, followed by an arrow. These are two separate radios in the router and they are intended to both be available to clients.

The settings you make there change only the router. You choose which radio band you are configuring from the arrow mentioned above. Both will remain active and available to clients unless you turn the radio off from the "Wireless - Professional" tab.

COMPUTER: The little Wi-Fi icon in the Windows System Tray controls how that computer connects to the radio in the router. It changes nothing inside the router, and does not change any other clients using the router. You can, for example, tell the computer to log into the 5GHz band while the printer remains logged into the other radio on 2.4GHz.

Rico, were you able to update the drivers I gave a link for in message #7?

On the inSSIDer display you can safely ignore signals below -75 or -80dBm. They are not going to bother you.

Is the laptop still on the 2.4GHz band?

Post #21 is not about SpeedTest. That image came from inSSIDer.

The driver was updated!
Yes it's on 5Gha
post #21 insidder, & speedtest were run at the same time, or speed test gave speed reading with the insidder pic on the screen.

Great post #21 the two very faint networks, wont interfere or bother

The screenshot I see in #21 is just inSSIDer. Speedtest cannot insert itself into the inSSIDer program, and no speed test is visible in the screen clip.

Dan two windows were open one with inssider, the other had speedtest, I observed both, post #23 was identical to, post #21 regarding inssider

SSH to your router and run these commands to unlock all the channels:
ironclad, Rico's iPad gets full speed at the same location, and his inSSIDer screen clip shows a signal at about -55dBm, so I doubt that signal strength is the issue. Rico is a bit new to how routers and Wi-Fi work so I would prefer to not make matters worse by asking to dabble in more esoteric features.
