I have just picked up an Asus 5300 and have an old Apple Airport Extreme Fifth gen. The Airport has treated me well and I always got as good of wireless performance from it in Speedtest as I did wired. No need to reboot and was rock solid.
I just picked up the Asus because I got a ring doorbell and it seems to need the a wireless router sitting right on top of it to work well.
Unfortunately that means the airport was not where the rest of the devices needed it to be for a strong signal.
What is my best option? Two seperate wireless networks? There are various forums posts saying the Airport Extreme can and can't be used as an access point.
If it can how is this accomplished via software and hardware as so far my efforts have failed. Run a cable from the Asus to the wan port? on the airport and set it to extend? Bridge mode?
Also another odd issue is my old fifth gen airport connected to a very old Snapgear
SG570 router had 10-20 milliseconds better ping on Speedtest on all the severs. That is 48-56 with just the Asus and 29-41 with the AirPort Extreme plus Snapgear. The 29 jumping to 48 and 40-41 to 56. Up and down bandwidth is the same.
While the Snapgear was an impressive
piece of gear back in the day surely there is something going on? Everything is the latest stock firmware.
