Both the 270.26b and 3.0.0.4.372.30.2 have the same wireless driver.
Excellent!
Would you mind at some point making a post on how you got it configured both on the router and (especially) the Android phone, for others who might be interested?
Maybe your router is broken? There's nothing special you need to do to enable 5Ghz. Have you tried clearing the NVRAM?I am running 3.0.0.4.372.30_2 and have no evidence anywhere of 5Ghz actually working.. this is very frustrating!
By the way, should point out that the stock firmware out of the box, and the 2 updates (Asus factory firmware) also didn't make 5Ghz work. I then moved on to Merlin and it's still not working.
So doesn't seem to be a firmware issue, unless I managed to pick 4 firmware versions that all have 5Ghz issues. I know there were a few that did, but I'm pretty sure this version of Merlin I'm running is known to be good with 5Ghz.

I believe this is the update we've all been waiting for no?
ASUS RT-N66U Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.372.1393
Updated Broadcom driver and fixed Intel 4965 / 6300 5GHz 40MHz connection issue.
Still broken, and Asus should just remove the release.
It was so sweet of that poor piece of silicon-metal-plastic.There is a new firmware version available. Do you want to upgrade the firmware?
Your current firmware version is 3.0.0.4_372_0-g
Latest firmware version is 3.0.0.4_372_1300-gd292488
Looks like they did put a newer version, they even put another GPL but smaller in size.
A few minutes ago my RT-AC66U told me:
It was so sweet of that poor piece of silicon-metal-plastic.
Wait a minute... Oh, sh... They have really updated their firmware. I can only hope they didn't change too much.
