AX86U Pro errors started recently

Hi,
I recently started seeing these errors intermittently. The router is working fine but is there cause for concern over a potential hardware failure?
Thanks.

It likely indicates the presence of a bad block in the flash memory. I'd start by making sure you have a backup of your current settings and JFFS partition (Administration - Restore/Save/Upload Setting). Also make sure you have a copy of your currently installed firmware to hand.

If you SSH into the router you could run ubinfo -a to gather some more information.

I think my next step would be to perform a hard factory reset. And then, after the minimum amount of configuration necessary to have it operational, go and restore your settings and JFFS partition.

I thought I was out of the woods but the error came back 6 days after a hard reset. I just got off a chat with Asus. Looks like I'll be sending it back under warranty.

Followup:
The router was returned to Asus for service. They couldn't reproduce the error but replaced it with a refurb just in case. The replacement was recived dirty and with a different power supply type than the one sent. (not really ideal for my UPS). The replacement router is working fine and does not have show the error so far. Time will tell.

(not really ideal for my UPS)

This model router comes with few different 12-19V power supplies wall plug and laptop style. You perhaps have your old power supply since ASUS usually needs the router only for RMA. If you still have it, know it's good and the plug is the same - use the better fitting one to your UPS.

Actually, they wanted the power supply with the unit. I got in touch with them and they said they don't have it any more or any like it.. I'll see if I can find an aftermarket unit that won't blow up the router. I have a 12V 3a unit that I use with an electric piano that may work...again, if it doesn't blow up the router:oops:

it may be easier to find an adapter to your UPS socket that works well than to find a replacement power transformer with the correct tip that plugs into the router.

if it doesn't blow up the router
The current rating only needs to be greater than the router's need. The equipment will only draw as much current as is required. That "3 amps" is the maximum the supply is rated to deliver, but it is not used unless the attached hardware requires it.
