BE96U Mesh Network - No internet on 2.4GhZ

slw2206

New Around Here
I've had a network of 4 BE96s on my property for a couple years now. My routers auto updated to firmware 39112 and now it seems my devices that connect to the 2.4G network get locked out from the internet after a few hours.

If I factory reset it'll restore the internet on 2.4 for a couple hours, then everything loses internet again. The devices still show on the client list and have excellent connection (they've been working for years until this recent problem).

5G and 6G networks are not affected. I can get to the internet just fine on those networks while the 2.4 says it can't connect to internet.

I just swapped over to the most recent Merlin firmware today and 2.4 worked for about 4 hours.... then nothing.

Any ideas on what might be causing this? Are there logs I could post to help diagnose?

This firmware adds features, but doesn't change anything around Wi-Fi. The issue comes from Asuswrt base upstream, perhaps the Broadcom drivers used. Just find the firmware version that works for you and wait for update. Asuswrt-Merlin firmware doesn't have auto update, but Asuswrt may auto update even with this option disabled.

So I'm curious, since the issue has just started again and I noticed in the system logs it's given all kinds of errors about not being able to update IPs?

Does this mean anything that could diagnose the problem?

Mmk, so the .163 device that was being problematic in that log is a repeater I have on my barn (its 200 yards from the house and covers the back 3 acres). I killed the power to the barn, and that device, and all of a sudden all of those 2.4Ghz devices on the entire Mesh network connected and worked again.

Now the question would remain, why did the repeater do that? It's connected to my 5Ghz network and doesn't touch the 2.4 (at least in theory), but it's apparent the IP addresses being from the same pool has allowed some cross-contamination.

I've used this repeater for as long as I've had the BE96's and it's never done this before. Very strange, but I'm hopeful it may be resolved.

If anyone with more networking knowledge than I has an idea on why this may have happened and how to prevent future occurrences I'm all ears.

No, when I say back 3 acres I have a series of barns, coops, and stables that have cameras looking over them. I've never measured how far out into the fields that signal extends, but its enough to give me camera views of the property.

Sorry, didnt quite mean that literally...
