For those who own Apple devices, what is the best network setup?

A Gigabit network or a NAS?

Sounds like your network is already complete. What more do you need? You haven't explained what need is still outstanding. If it is storage, I'd recommend a ReadyNAS Pro. But I'm making an assumption here that you want storage.

You could use Apple Remote Desktop to view your mini from the MacBook Pro...
