Brighthouse cable modems

I have the brighthouse 15mbps service ($54/mo). I get about half the advertised bandwidth (7mbps) wired directly to a router off the modem. I've heard a better cable modem can push that up to the advertised speeds. Anyone have any experience with their own modem and getting full advertised speeds?
