Can the rt-n66u handle 330mbps?

I'm switching to another ISP and wondering if I need to / should upgrade my router. I'm currently signed up for gigabit which I know the router is struggling on (getting ~600mbps) so thinking it should be fine but not sure if I'm stressing the router to the point where it makes sense to switch

It can handle 330 Mbps provided you don't use anything that requires NAT acceleration to be disabled (like QoS for example).

Gbit Internet is challenging for home routers - best ones get near to 1 Gbit only if you do not use any CPU bound features (QoS, Firewall, etc.).

All in all: Yes, a home router with a faster CPU will get more throughput, but 1 Gbit in all cases is a challenge - you can search the forum for experience from other users and advice for a router...

Ok thank you. Yeah, I've never used QoS

Yeah, I figured I would need to upgrade if I did keep the gigabit but downgrading to 330mbs as gigabit seems overkill.

That would be one heck of a downgrade! However, 330Mbps would be quite respectable.

Hah full disclosure - I had 75/75 with Fios for almost 4 years now I think. I was annoyed I couldn't get a cheaper price or at least a bump in speed for free. I kept seeing promotions for gigabit internet from RCN for about the same price I was paying for Fios so I figured why not. I'm not sure if it was it a good idea because I lose on the upload (max is 20mbps) but I thought faster download speeds would be nice. Since I'm used to 75mbs, 1gig just seemed unnecessary. If I didn't have to pay an extra $23 / month for it, I would definitely keep it. Just don't see the need to justify the extra amount I would be paying. No matter what, my downloads are up by a significant amount - just not as drastic. Also, most of the downloads I did didn't really seem to benefit. Parralel was good though
