Hello, the title explains my very recent(today)problem, have tried 3 different browsers -Chrome,Firefox and Edge and rebooted pc after each but the page never loads and does not give any error messages.I have not done any windows updates for over 1 week and I always connect via ethernet cable, so far my troubleshooting consists of:
1. Tried http://router.asus.com/ but just says "this site cannot be reached"

2. cmd`d "ipconfig /all" and i believe the result is good - shows 192.168.1.1 as default gateway and 255.255.255.0 as subnet mask.

3. C:\Windows\system32>ping 192.168.1.1

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 1ms, Average = 0ms

C:\Windows\system32>tracert 192.168.1.1

Tracing route to 192.168.1.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

Anyone have suggestions to get my access restored?
Kind regards

Did you try temporarily turning off the windows firewall? Though firewall problems seems to give an instantaneous error message, I think.

Are you on the Guest wifi (inadvertently) with intranet access set to No? (I’ve dome that!)

Edit: forget it: you’re on ethernet.

Any mobile device you can try?

You can browse the Internet without problem?

You don’t run any scripts, so that’s one question answered.

(I love the sentence: I have not done any Windows updates for over a week)

Following on from Colin’s question, do you have a network scanner on a mobile device eg Network Toolbox app (iOS) and can run a scan on your router from the LAN for open ports on the router and see which ports are listening?

Hello, i have not touched the router settings since updating to 384.10 when it first came out, i have the admin page set to open when my browser starts which is how i noticed the page loading error.
No scripts or anything else apart from my Torguard dedicated vpn client which is still working ok.
I have a Samsung J5 can i run a network scan on that? If yes can you talk an idiot through the process please?
Regards

You’re not an idiot: you’re asking the right questions and anticipating the information others would ask.

But I don’t want to send you off at a tangent looking for and installing an Android network app that you’re unused to. So maybe there is an easier way to do it. You’re clearly happy using the command prompt in Windows; how are you with using a terminal and connecting vis SSH to the router?

Unfortunately, Network Toolbox is for Apple but you could look for well rated network scanning apps for Android, but I’m uncomfortable because I feel I’m sending you off at a tangent and distracting you from better suggestions.

What about Colin’s question on https access?

Did you switch GUI access to HTTPS and forgot you did it?

https://router.asus.com:8443
Not as far as i know, i could access the admin page yesterday and have not touched any settings since updating to 384.10 many weeks ago, i only log into the admin to make sure my vpn is connected to the correct IP address and have not physically altered any settings. When i click on your link i get: "This site can`t be reached"
Regards

Hello, i will attempt any kind of troubleshooting , but does`nt SSH need to be enabled on the router?

It's cheating, but what if you reboot your router? Is access restored? perhaps httpd crashed, which is not unheard of on the AC86U. If you don't have SSH access power cycle would be the next best option.
Hello, so just pull the power cable wait a couple of minutes and re-plug?
Regards

That will work, unless you can identify a power on/off button on the router (I have a different model than you).

Did we determine if you can use PuTTY to SSH to the router?

Yes, it does. And if you're asking the question then you’re clearly not familiar with it and this maybe isn’t the time to learn, plus, you’d need to access the webui to turn it on! (At least, I’m fairly sure SSH is off by default.)

Hello, i thought i read on the forum that SSH needs to be "enabled" first in the router settings to be able to use SSH, is that incorrect?
Yes, i do in fact have a "on/off" switch i can use.
Regards

Just going to reboot now

Hello, rebooted and access has been restored, this router does seem quite buggy,i only "upgraded" from my RT-AC68U which never gave me problems because i wanted the extra ooomph when connected to the vpn, thanks for everyone`s input, i am off to google "httpd crashed" .
Regards

It would be useful to have SSH enabled, even if for a specific IP on your network, so that if this happens again, you can just SSH to the router and enter:
Code:
service restart_httpd
instead of rebooting the router and disrupting your network.
