Dear all

I had use the original RT AC 66 U for years. It work fine with zero issue for a long time.

One day the power on switch behind the router is not work. I bring it to the service center and they replace me the new one,

RT AC 66 U_B1, the firmware was automatic upgrade to the latest one 7266

It's more powerful, more function, looks good.

Since few days of using, I found that all device( PC, Mobile, Tablet) cannot log in. First I think it's a problem because of the different setting with old and new router. I delete the connecting profile of all device and try to reconnect, it still not work. I decide to restart router, it work fine.

Next few days, when we turn of PC, it cannot connect to router. I think it because of USB adapter but finally after reset router it work fine.

Next few day return again, same solution restart.

I decide to set up auto restart router every 3 days, problem remain. Set to everyday, still remain, set to never, still remain.

The problem also with Asus Mobile app that cannot access the router with the error of Wrong Password. Try to restart router and can fix. Nothing change with router.

I try to downgrade the router firmware but the problem still remain, go to Merlin but the problem still remain.

Currently I return to 7266 factory reset and re-config everything manually without restore from setting file.

Since last few days, the problem return every few hours, I have to reset router many time a day.

May be you anything recommendation to help me fix this problem.

Thank you.

There have been some problems with the 380.7266 version of the firmware. Asus recommended I go back to 380.4164 and so far it seems to be working OK. Yes, I have run the Merlin firmware successfully and the extra features are great but I have to ask myself do I really need them.

About the easiest way to go back is to download the 380.4164 firmware and flash it from the admin area. But remove any connected USB devices first. Let it do its thing and boot back up, turn off the power switch then turn it back on while holding the WPS button for about 15 seconds. Release the WPS button and let the router boot up (you have just done a Factory Reset). Connect to the router on 192.168.50.1 or router.asus.com and configure user and password so you can log in. Once in reflash the router again with the 380.4164 firmware. Now configure the router WIFI and everything else. Do not use a saved configuration file!
If this does not get you working you may have a bum router and should seek a replacement.

You may want to upgrade again but use the firmware for the RT-AC68U which will work on the AC66U_B1. I am up with this firmware for three days with no issues.

Please note that this works for router model RT-AC66U_B1. Do not confuse this with the H/W version!

I already try with RT 68 firmware Merlin Version, nothing change.
I don't understand why i have the authentic issue with different firmware. The device that already connect have no problem but new device cannot till you restart the Router.

My current solution.
  • Use the latest official firmware (7266)
  • Factory reset
  • Disable All AI Protection
  • Disable all QOS function
  • Disable all Traffic analyzer
No problem for 3 days.

Today I just start to try to use one by one AI protection function I had disable.

Currently I just enable
  • AI Protection (only Malicious site blocking).
  • Enable all QOS function
  • Enable all Traffic analyzer
To be monitor next 3 days.

Update Fail since first day

If it work, I will enable one by one function that I had disable till I can find which one cause the problem.

I just found the information when I am searching the information about AI protection.

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/official-ai-protection.28078/

It's quite similar to my issue and make me more confident to try by disable and enable one by one function of AI Protection.

Dear all

Do you have any suggestion to recommend me to try?

Thank you.

You may want to upgrade again but use the firmware for the RT-AC68U which will work on the AC66U_B1. These routers use the same processor and both have USB3 and USB2 ports. Merlin has confirmed that the firnware is the same for both! I am up with this firmware for nine days with no issues.

Look like I found the root of problem.
This one still not proofed.

I found that most of the time when my sister connect her laptop(the back up device from IT department due to the original one is out of order) to the network, we face the problem.
I suggest that the IP was fixed because this is the corporate device so I do not go to check.

We cannot proof it due to her company change her new laptop that I still never face the problem.
I cannot proof that is if from the IP change or the back up laptop that cause the problem.

I decide to change the router IP.
Since that time, I never face the issue for longer than 7 day.
I will update if I can proof that is it the solution or not.
