Cannot reach Cable modem page anymore

Hi there. I recently piked up some new net hardware and things have been running fine. A month ago I went to access my Cable modem page and I'm now getting a '404 Page Not Found' I've called the cable provider and they don't know what's going on. What would cause this to happen?

What 'net hardware' did you pick up? It is simply a matter of your router and your cable modem being on different subnets?

Also, what is causing the delay from trying to access the modem page a month ago and today you're getting a '404 Page Not Found'? :)

Try using a different browser and/or clearing your browser's cache.

If that doesn't help try plugging an Ethernet cable directly into the Ethernet port on the router to see if you can gain access and are addressing the correct IP.

Hi. For some reason I didn't seen any updates on the last thread. I think it might be Firefoxs' new privacy settings. I picked up a new modem and router. The modem IP login page gives me that error. I haven't tried plugging a box directly into the modem, yet.

EDIT: I don't know what I'm doing. When I click on Internet Status, on my Asus Router, it brings up info on the right. The Subnet Mask on the front page "Internet Status" is a different number than when I check the Subnet Mask in the Lan settings 'Lan IP' tab

Some ISPs will remotely disable the modem's webui. Vidéotron here does that for previous models (but not for the latest TC4400, maybe they can't any more).

I called tech back in Jan and they said it was on their end. I called today and they said it's on my end. I asked for a different teir but then had to leave before getting anywhere. Should the Subnet Masks be matching on both the front Internet Status page, and the Lan IP page? I do have internet access and nothing feels worng. I use the Modem page to check if I'm having errors/corrections to help me know when to reboot my cable modem.

Usually you shouldn't need any special configuration.

I got it working. Somehow the old bookmark I saved was corrupt er something. I'm not 100% sure about that, but at the same time I also matched the Subnet Mask from the 'Internet Status' page to the Lan IP page. I don't remember ever having to do that so a funky bookmark theory seems more convincing.

Thanks for the help, everyone! :D

Cheers

The WAN and LAN subnet masks are not related and are almost always different. Change your LAN subnet mask back to the default (255.255.255.0) otherwise at some point in the future you may have issues (for example the Network Map not working properly).

Thank you, I will :) Good to know!

woah, Videotron is using the 4400? why won't they buy Cogeco and have at Rogers here in Ontario? prolly some silly CRTC competition thang...

Vidéotron uses the TC4400 for their hybrid DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 deployment. I believe Shaw is currently testing it as well (altho they are testing the older V2 revision that's Cable Labs certified, while Vidéotron went with the yet uncertified V3).

What is Rogers using for their DOCSIS 3.1 network? I would have expected them to also go with the TC4400 as they were previously on the DCM476.

I'm not sure about Rogers, but Cogeco (to the best of my knowledge and understanding) is using the tried and true DCM476.

DCM476 is DOCSIS 3.0 tho. They will need something else for when they move to 3.1.

Hey I got another question. I was able to reach my 'Connection' page on my cable modem and found a bunch of corrected errors on the OFDM PLC channel, with zero uncorrected. Is this normal???

I'm not even sure anyone is moving to Full Duplex DOCSIS 3.1 - everywhere I look, speeds are still asymmetric, and the highest Up speeds are in (for now) limited areas.

Deployment simply takes time. The first problem is providers must free up frequencies to be able to reallocate them to the DOCSIS 3.1 channels. This is a process that was started when analog channels were removed a few years ago. Every single node also requires equipment upgrades, something Vidéotron has been doing these past few years.

I suspect some node splits are also required for some areas.

It will eventually happen, once all these upgrades are done. The technology is there, and the competition is already offering it through FTTH, so market-wise they don't have any choice but to follow.

I'd expect Vidéotron to have at least some much faster upload rates offered sometime this year, based on the latest info concerning their deployment.

Cogeco is completing some similar upgrades in my area lately, too. So yes, I know it takes time, I know it's coming, but I'm 3 years old when it comes to better/faster: I want it NOW! NOW NOW NOW NOW and yesterday would be better. ;-p
