Can't upgrade former T-Mo RT-AC68U flashed to Asus from 384.19 to 386.72. Rebooted before attempt, update appears to succeed, but fails silently.

Yes, this is illegal use of Asus/RMerlin firmware on unsupported devices. No support will be offered on these forums for your inquiry.

T-Mo RT-AC68U
Use the forum search feature. There are a number of previous posts with T-Mobile branded Asus routers having the exact same problem. One recent thread:

Note the following statement in a stickied/tacked thread in another subforum here:
SNBForums Policy on ASUS TM-AC1900 Conversion Discussion
Further discussion of methods to get around ASUS' lockdown of TM-AC1900 firmware to prevent conversion to RT-AC68U will not be allowed. The main discussion thread has been deleted. Conversations related to defeating the lockdown have been deleted. New threads or Conversations opened on the topic will be deleted.

ASUS did not request the removal of this material or otherwise influence these actions.
And this one from RMerlin:
THE TM-AC1900 IS NOT SUPPORTED
Since people can't read existing forum posts, the FAQ, or the Supported Device list...

That model is NOT supported. It never was, and it's even less supported since Asus is now enforcing stricter model validation on the RT-AC68U series at flash time. It doesn't matter whether you converted it, hacked it, repainted it, or whatever. Stop asking on the forums for help flashing your RT-AC68U when you actually have a TM-AC1900 - it's NOT supported, period.
Any discussion here on how to properly convert the T-Mobile branded Asus router to accept "unsupported" firmware will likely be locked/deleted. Search the internet for discussions elsewhere on converting/flashing the T-Mobile branded Asus routers and or fixing certain issues.

@L&LD That is not official SNBForums policy.

The policy is: Posts on converting the TM-AC1900 are not allowed. Questions regarding an already converted router are allowed. It is up to forum members to decide whether or not to answer these questions.

That said, not many users on these forums will be helpful with those questions.

Returns to main interface page, with a new JFFS free space warning, version still on 384.19.
There are all kinds of major changes between the firmware versions stated. Some are quite critical. I don't expect your leap from this old firmware to this new one to work.

You could flash back to T-Mo.

That being said - It's still an Asus AC class device - posters be up front that it's a TM1900 unit, with the stock firmware, and folks are likely to help out.

Converting is out of the question however...
