Clarify for me Mesh vs. AP

Isn't mesh networking just access points that are wireless?! FYI...I have the Asus RT-AC3200, I could add another for $187 right now as an AP, and murder any performance standard a mesh setup would offer correct?! Am I missing something here?!

Good discussion of that overall question here...

Cliff Notes summary:
Yes, ethernet backhaul between router & AP wins every time & all day long over wireless backhaul. But since not everyone has the ability to string ethernet all over a big house, there is an understandable interest in "close enough" wireless mesh systems (which are also typically easier to setup and manage for the average joe).

But since not everyone has the ability to string ethernet all over a big house

and that is the key here , not everyone wants , has or cares about structured cabling installed within the house

this is where mesh and other wifi systems are the next best option

Got it...my house is hardwired, so I have options for adding solid ap's if I want to radiate like the sun! :-D
