Clearing NVRAM same as "Reset Defaults" GUI?

Have always wonder if the reset to defaults button in the GUI is as good as any way to clear NVRAM!

There are a few opinions on the (various) different methods to accomplish it. I have seen reference to methods where you use the WPS button, or the router Reset button, or the router UI, or via telnet. I would like the experts on here (you know who you are) to clearly detail each method and then make it a forum sticky so everyone can easily find it for reference.
