Create partition for external USB key

Hi - I have been searching here for the past 15mins and can't fins any info on how to partition an external USB key I have plugged in. I only have a Mac machine here to use.

Can I partition it on the Asus RT-N66U itself or do I need a Linux machine ?

Nevermind ! I had a Hirens boot disk that I booted up in Linux to create an ext3 partition and all is good now.
