dd-wrt on AC66U

Having finally decided to give up on Asus' efforts at firmware, and indeed Merlin's (who, by the nature of the beast, cannot rectify all of Asus' short-comings), is dd-wrt fully compatible with the AC66U, and if so, will there be any compromises using this firmware? If it is compatible, could someone point me in the direction of a guide to installing and setting up dd-wrt on this router, or if it isn't fully compatible, a suggestion for a new ac router, whose firmware does work (so the Asus can finally go where it belongs, in the bin :D)

what kind problems were you having with asuswrt/merlin ? sorry, dont recall you seeking assistance in recent memory

Parental controls not working, N-only mode on 2.4 radio not working, DST updating a week late, Wireless Log Rx column displaying '??' instead of actual wireless speed, and various other small things. Have found work-arounds to some of these (using these forums) or just had to ignore them. Not what I expected when buying a premium product (for a premium price), I would just like to have all the functions of the router actually working, all the time, so was interested to know if dd-wrt would provide me with this.

Hi,
Any f/w, stock, dd-wrt, open-wrt or Tomato all have their good and bad. You just have to pick one suits you best. Nothing in this world is perfect as you know. I used all kinda routers but managed to have them do what I need/want. Now I have Netgear R7000 with Kong's latest dd-wrt. Prior I used ASUS RT-AC66U which worked pretty well for my family. I don't care of nitty gritty details how router is dong as long as it stays up and keeps on working. I retired from related field after ~40 years. Even enterprise , military grade stuffs have bugs. Like our selves, is there any one 100% healthy?, LOL! Any how, if you want to try dd-wrt or other ones why not? It is not hard to switch f/w back and forth. It is impossible to answer your question. My router always runs real time video streaming off Internet feeding my HT system, 3 surveillance cameras, small NAS box plus core router chores.
