disable one radio of RT-AC66R/U

Hello Everyone,

I have a Netgear WNDR3700vV1 and ASUS RT-AC66R (U) sitting next to each other. I've disabled the 5ghz radio on the netgear and 2.4ghz radio on the asus to reduce interference and load. Is this a good setup to have to get best performance out of both these devices (w.r.t range and throughput)? I'll not be able to relocate any of them to have any kind of meaningful separation between them. Many of my client devices are on 2.4 but newer ones will hopefully connect to 5ghz even though currently its range is not that great.

I'm ok with replacing the twin setup with a single better solution as well - please do suggest; again the aim is to have good coverage, throughput etc - just like everyone else!!

TIA!

Is it a good set up ? Having had both routers I'd say just run the AC66 forget the 3700 v1 , when was the 3700 fw/sw last updated , 3 years ago ?

Thanks folks for the prompt response! Maybe I'll keep WNDR around for hard wired ports...

Even for that purpose I would suggest you sell it and get an 5 or 8 port switch instead. Faster, more power efficient and you may even make a couple of dollars too. ;)

lol - i guess i'll dispose it somehow... and while we're here, any worthwhile replacement for ac66? its 5ghz range sucks (for me). Maybe Merlin's fw may address it, hopefully w/o overheating... but don't mind an overall better one

For a potentially noticeable increase in range and performance, the RT-AC3200, the RT-AC88U and the RT-AC5300 are the ones I would be considering.

But again; the hggomes firmware would give you that or more with the router you have now.

Read the link I provide in my first post above for the potential the firmware can make.

I can say the 3200 has been working really well , at least it has for me . Only time it needs a reboot is when I load new FW , other than that it runs for months with no problems , reaches all areas of the house . I use an AC 66 as a media bridge for one of the TV video set ups , works well with the 3200 , 40 ft away one floor down 4 walls and connects between 360 and 640 , transfer speeds of 26- 30 MBPS . Not bad at that distance and wall count .
