Diversion Diversion 5.4.6 - the Router Ad-Blocker, July 27, 2025

Diversion 5.4.6 is now available
  • Some cosmetic changes here and there.
  • Fixes grep error output when a uiDivStats installation is incomplete. Thanks to @fritzk33 for reporting.
  • Adds garycnew.github.io to the shared-Diversion-whitelist.

Thanks to thelonelycoder for the script update - all went well the next time around, the installation script completed on the first try, then I was able to go into the Diversion menu and update to 5.4.6 from there. Everything seems to be back in order.

Much appreciation to this very supportive community!

Quick question regarding the update process for Diversion. When the routine runs and the Entware server is unresponsive, what’s the expected behavior?

After waiting several minutes, I received the following messages:
Code:
  i Checking Entware installation
  ✔ Entware found, running checks
Collected errors:
 * opkg_download: Failed to download https://bin.entware.net/aarch64-k3.10/Packages.gz, wget returned 4.
 * opkg_download: Check your network settings and connectivity.

  ✔ Entware checks passed

Following that, another timeout occurred during the blocking list check.

I was wondering how the script is intended to handle these kinds of errors—does it have a built-in fallback or recovery process when this happens?

Please excuse me if this is not the correct location for posting or if the issue was already addressed.

I recently noticed that the Diversion On/Off Toggle does not seem to be working on the router interface. It will actually trigger On or Off but the after the progress, it flips right back to the initial state. For example if I turn it off, it will flip, show progress percentage, then show on still.

Checking the router directly does show that it is indeed off. The only thing that seems to correct this is rebooting the router. I've also force updated diversion to no avail. It was fine in the past so I'm not sure what happened. Any guidance or assistance is appreciated.

amtm is 6.1.4; diversion is 5.4.6 as of today (no change in behavior); Merlin 3006.102.4; RT-AX86U Pro

ok.. thanks! anyway after installing diversion, do i need to do anything for it? how do i know it is actually blocking ads?
As regards your first question, no, unless you find you need to let a specific site through, in which case the mechanism to achieve this is via the use of whitelists.

There is already excellent documentation regarding achieving this and the forum has good examples. If, having first tried yourself, you have lingering issues feel free to present these with details of what you have tried and the resultant issue.

As regards the second, visually. Options are:
  1. Try visiting a few websites and see if the ads that used to come up are no longer coming up or are at least replaced with a blank. You can disable it from within the GUI, try and then re-enable it and see the difference.
  2. In amtm, 1, see domains blocked stats.
  3. In WebGUI, LAN, Diversiuon Tab, the same.

I need Help

I set this up and used the reserver ip xxx.xxx.xx3 for pixelserver. this ip i used in DNS DIrector on my Router for my Home PC so the Pc is using division. Is this right???? in the docs i saw something to use the Router IP i dont understand ?!
And what should i do when i setup a quad9 DNS in Generell

Here i see they say i have to change ip start pool to xx4 that is done
With Diversion Standard installed, this generally means increasing it from xxx.xxx.xxx.xx3 to xxx.xxx.xxx.xx4.
The reserved pixelserv-tls likely is set as xxx.xxx.xxx.xx2, so the new reservation would be xxx.xxx.xxx.xx3, or 192.168.1.3

i dont understand what they mean with from 2 and then they tell 3 and then 4 but i thinked best will be the highest

Pixelserv is now dead. Forget about it.

There is now only one version of Diversion.

I recently started having issues with Diversion and Paramount Plus live TV and I'm getting error code 6015. It's only for certain channels (sports channels and some news channels) I get this error code.

When I temporarily disabled Diversion all channels load without issues. I did try logging dnsmasq option 4 and check for blocked domains by IP but nothing populates.

Funny thing is Paramount Plus has been working fine without issues until today. I will try restarting router when time allows.

Any ideas/thoughts?

Don’t filter the logging by IP if you have IPv6 enabled. You may be missing the smoking gun.

What blocklist?

I appreciate it @dave14305 . I'm using standard blocklist.

I disabled IPV6. And follow the blocked domains log by IP and the culprit was to add the following domain to allowlist:

Code:
google.com

I'll keep IVP6 disabled in the meantime.

That’s a high price to pay for the whole network in terms of adblocking. Wasn’t there a more specific domain to allow?
I did see others so I'll have to recheck again and try them 1 by 1.

The one I saw read "dai.google.com" which does seem to work as well. Should I add the beginning part to it so it's more specific?

Try using "Exclude devices from ad-blocking". I use this for my Nest Audio speakers because I had the same problem with Diversion stopping the music when using Pandora whenever an ad popped up.

I appreciate everyones input. It seems the only domain that allows Paramount (live TV) to work is

Code:
dai.google.com

I've updated my allowlist. Thanks again!
