hi,

just got a new ax56u and tried to install dnscrypt-proxy through amtm, but i got this error
Code:
[2020-08-15 18:27:11] [NOTICE] dnscrypt-proxy 2.0.44
[2020-08-15 18:27:11] [NOTICE] Dropping privileges
[2020-08-15 18:27:11] [FATAL] Unable to drop additional groups: [function not implemented]
Info: Move invalid configuration file to /jffs/dnscrypt/dnscrypt-proxy.toml.err

how to fix this?

thanks
I've got an AX-58U with Merlin 386.2 beta 2 and serious issues installing dnscrypt-proxy using amtm.

I'm seeing the same error as above - during configuration in amtm/di the toml file is created, then the error pops up and the toml file is moved to .err.
DNSCrypt-proxy could be started manually by setting the listen interface to something else than 127.0.0.1:53 (which is occupied by DNSMasq), and commenting the line that drops privileges to go with user "nobody".

This way it's never really used, though.

Additionally I can't install haveged: /jffs/dnscrypt/haveged: not found (exists but doesn't execute properly).

The configuration never really finishes.

Edit: Installer version is 2.1.8
Edit 2: I'm also seeing [: bad number before the line Info: JFFS custom scripts and configs are already enabled.

How is WAN & LAN dns set? And also how is LAN/Dns-filter set?
Any other scripts installed on the router?
386.2 beta 2 include a rngd so maybe it conflict's with haveged (a guess since i can't test it)

WAN is DHCP with 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8 set manually (Connect to DNS Server automatically off), LAN doesn't have a DNS set but the router itself (Advertise router's IP in addition to user-specified DNS on).

Other scripts:
- FlexQoS
- YazFi
- Entware
- Disk Check Script

Being this is a newer router, I will have to contact you more about it when I am able to access a computer, but it sounds like an issue with the kernal type or it is not fully supported yet? @RMerlin also you need to make sure you are using the installer to fully configure dnscrypt proxy.

Thanks. I am, I tried the installer using amtm and the installer directly from github to no avail.
what output do you get when you type in uname -m into the ssh terminal?

the only outputs the installer supports is

armv7l

aarch64

Edit:

I currently have it running on the RTAX88U 386.2 beta 2 and GTAX11000 386.2 beta 2 with no issues, I will have to do some more digging. The only difference is my Wan DNS is set to automatic.

Here is a test run I did with the RTAX88U on beta 2. --- This router uses aarch64

How do I get the full output of the installer to post here?

You may have to shorten sections, such as the long list of servers.

Also, Did you perform a full factory reset after converting from stock firmware to RMerlin Firmware? there are many differences between the firmwares that may need to the addressed with a full factory reset and a Manual reconfiguration of router settings (I.E. not trying to restore settings from a backup created from stock firmware).

Strange though, I thought since it was a HND model it would not be an armv7l , but I guess Asus is still using that with newer routers.

@panni , as per this observation, try using it without haveged installed.

As well, I have found other users having issues with this router particularly on the 386 branches.
check out

You may want to try the 384.19 firmware to see if you have the same issues. 384.19 is not currently in beta and some users are reporting it as more stable for the RTAX58U.

what is the output values when you type these into the SSH terminal...

nvram get jffs2_enable

and

df

As I fear there maybe an issue with your JFFS partition...

Hmm, the screen resets during the usage of the installer, and I won't be able to copy certain output. Is there a way to redirect/separate output into a log as well?

Yes I did a proper full reset before upgrading, including the WPS reset before and after upgrading to Merlin. Also it was brand new (two weeks old).

Honestly, I'd rather not. 386.2 is extremely stable for me and I'm completely happy with the AX58U right now.

I'll explicitly try without installing haveged again, but I think I already tried that.

With out further info I have no way to know what is the root cause of your problem as i am not in possession of a rtax58u. This issue evades all my test (it seems exclusive to this newer model). I am not even having this issue on a gt ax 11000. Or a rtac68u.

I believe your jffs2_enable should be reporting a 1 value if it is enabled properly, it does on all the routers i have tested.

Try running
nvram set jffs2_enable=1 && nvram set jffs2_scripts=1 && nvram commit

inside your ssh terminal before running the installer script

nvram set jffs2_enable=1 && nvram set jffs2_scripts=1 && nvram commit
Just did that, nvram get jffs2_enable now returns 1.

I tried to replicate exactly what you've done above, there's the log:
