Entware-3x for new HND platform (GT-AC5300 and RT-AC86U) with asuswrt-merlin firmware

Is Entware-3x installed on your router? opkg binary should be in your PATH.
Entware is updated independently for firmware upgrade.

Apparently Entware is not installed. Do I need to install it to upgrade from firmware 380.xx to 384.xx? or can I just go ahead and upgrade without Entware?
