Error in BE98-Pro User Manual?

The GT-BE98 Pro User Manual, in the DHCP Server setup section, p. 61, "We recommend that you use an IP address format of 192.168.1.xxx (where xxx can be any number between 2 and 254) when specifying an IP address range." But the default router IP address is 192.168.50.1 and I don't see any advice to change it; wouldn't the recommendation put DHCP assignments on a subnet different from the router? Am I missing something?

Use 192.168.50.xxx if you like. No need to change it.

It is not a mistake. Rather another case where the author(s) of the manual think like a technician rather than a consumer. And, they do not have the resources or time to test their writing. I wrote software documentation in another life and it is not easy. I still do some instructions/documentation on a WIKI.

This is a Copy/Paste error. Result of rushing and low QC. There were many such errors in firmware help tips on AX-class routers.

Curious. I've always wondered, why the change? is using 192.168.50.xxx any better/safer than 192.1681.xxx, or is it a flip of the coin?

Or use 10.x.x.x. I never use an octet beginning with 192 for my LAN IP addresses.

My guess would be that it can clash with ISP equipment that also commonly defaults with 192.168.1.x.

What are you talking about, Tech9? I haven't had a problem with my client list using 10.x.x.x.

Why would it get messed up? In the late 90's I started using 221 as the first number in the Octet for my LAN, when I was using a PC for a DHCP server. Which was a Chinese IP address, so I figured it wouldn't cause any issues for me in the US. And it didn't. I used that Octet beginning with 221 on my LAN until 2022, when I got an AX89X router. And then I used the opportunity to switch to an Octet starting with 10. Since I had to input everything from scratch and couldn't upload the settings file from my old Asus router to the AX89X. In those 26+ years I've never had a client list get messed up.

I prefer not to use an Octet starting with 192, because many devices use that as the default IP address. Which has confused me in the past. Of course this is a personal preference. And whether using 192 or 10 it will work just the same.

You guys use whatever you like. Don't go larger than /24 subnet to begin with. There are other quirks when changing the default subnet to 10.x.x.x, but as I understand you clearly know what are you doing.
