Fiber IN the home?

Has anyone set up fiber in the home?

The reason I ask is that my dad's phone line was hit by lightning 2 weeks ago, and almost every device on the ethernet line was fried. (modem, router, 2 switches and 2 NICs) I was thinking that if he had fiber, there would have need no path for the lightning to follow. (course if it would have came in on the AC, that still wouldn't save it!)

Just wonder, and I do know it would cost more, just not how much more.

There are surge protection preventative measures that can be taken. Depends on your setup.

Fiber connections are available (such as Fios), but using Fiber for your LAN would be outrageously expensive.
