Filename Length restrictions?

Hello folks,
I've got a Promise NS4300N, and I'm running into trouble copying some files to it. The file names are extremely long, 124 characters.
For example
southtsp.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.999.012.ped

It will copy over a few, then hits one of these, and just freezes. The file size is only 15kB, so its not a size issue.

Whats the length restriction on these devices?

I assume you're not able to change the names? According to Google/Wikipedia that NAS uses a (modified) ext3 file system, which has a 255 character limit on filenames. Are these files on the root of the drive or inside a subdirectory? If it's the latter, I would try copying it to the root, see if you could get around whatever limit you are hitting.

samba has some a lot of config around file names to handle different operating systems. Not sure you have access to any of that on your device

I'd love to, but if it can't be in a folder, its not worth having the NAS for these files. These are data files from surveys, and have to be in folders with dates, names, etc.
