I have tried 14E1 for a month or so but it appears to me that 13E1 is more stable, just in my opinion.

Just a personal opinion for US users....it's my sense that here is a lot of activity at many ISPs to provide higher tiers of service which can result in intermittent bouts of 'flakey' (technical term ) performance. If you are seeing something strange, you may want to search a bit to see if there is any activity in your area or if your ISP has announced service upgrades.

Two things have been suggested that can cause this....
(1) If you are sharing SSIDs between radios, either between the main router and an AP, or between radios on the router. It seems as if this is an artifact when a client changes it connection. So, ir you are using a common SSID, make them separate.
(2) Some of the newer clients are shipped with an interference protection mode of CTS-to-self set by default. You can change this to the more traditional CTS/RTS. For example the Intel 7260 cards under Windows have the settings in the advanced driver properties under Mixed Mode Protection.

Any of these apply?

^ Yes, in addition to the AC-68U, I have a Netgear access point using the same SSID. I don't want 2 different SSIDs. The Logitech Harmony remote app keys off the SSID, and I want to be able to use it regardless of which access point my device is connected to.

I understand this log entry is harmless, I was just wondering whether there was a way to not log it.

Wouldn't it be cool to have a regular expression match to squelch log entries?

So with Asus's just-released new firmware for the RT-N66U, I figure I'll give it a try. I save my John's Fork settings, load the new Asus firmware, and do a factory reset. I rebuild my settings and I'm off to the races!

Thing is, I immediately see a drop in wireless performance throughout my house and on every device. Bummer!

I reload 14E1, do a factory reset, upload my saved 14E1 settings and, ahhhhh, I'm in wireless heaven again

Yeah. I went back to 13E1 a while back, as I was getting random disconnects and had to reboot to fix each time, not happened once since doing so. I posted a few pages back about this and was asked to post logs, but unfortunately I had none by then, however, I'm very happy on 13E1, rockin and great, so thx again John!!

Yeah. I went back to 13E1 a while back, as I was getting random disconnects and had to reboot to fix each time, not happened once since doing so.

When I updated to 14E1, everything seemed fine to me, but one of my roommates was complaining about disconnects so I went back to 13E1. I figured that 14E1 just wasn't stable yet for whatever reason but I didn't have the time to do any troubleshooting. Since nothing has actually turned up yet, it's possible that we just need to delete connections on the clients and re-connect or something. I'll eventually go back to 14E1 or whatever follows it.

Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I've got an RT-N66U and I've been running merlin builds for a long time. I was on one particular build for a good year and a half or so, and recently decided I'd update the firmware to a more recent build. I tried the newest 378 and had a ton of issues (lots of "network hiccups" if that explains anything - very brief moments of delayed activity WAN or LAN and other issues with always on wireless devices). So I figured I'd roll back to an older firmware since I'd had no issues for so long before.

Here's the problem: I don't remember which build I had used for so long...

I decided I'd give this fork a try, and it seems much more reliable than the 378, but I have had a number of issues with the 5GHz band. Every few minutes, Internet connectivity just halts. The devices stay connected, but I have to wait a minute or so before Internet connectivity will resume as usual. The 2.4GHz band has no issues.

Honestly, I'd just use whichever firmware I stayed on for so long (maybe it was a 376?), but I just don't know which it was. I figured I'd ask if anyone had any idea what might be going on with my 5GHz band first, though, since I like all the other features merged into this fork.

I think I remember the early asus firmwares having issues with the 5GHz band way back when I got the router, but I don't quite recall what that was all about. Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Did you do a reset to factory defaults AFTER loading the firmware? It's required when switching between the levels.

Just wanted to add to what John posted assuming you probably have not done a complete factory reset. I can say with certainty for basic routing this firmware V-14 is rock solid on my RT-N66 and the 5Ghz band shines like a new car no issues great range.

Yeah, I definitely did a factory reset, but I believe I did it via the physical hardware button, if that makes a difference. I'd done a factory reset before as well and when the firmware upgrade completed, the login had been defaulted for whatever reason, and wouldn't go directly into the setup wizard. So, I did a couple hardware resets, to no avail. I ended up looking up default logins for asus, and the good ole fashioned admin/admin worked. Maybe the hardware resets weren't complete, though. Seems plausible.

The thing is I am taking it overseas to a country that does not have transmit power regulations and will be using it in a single story flat that has cinder block walls between rooms. From my understanding, this fork is the only one which I can change the default tx power from 80mw to something higher correct? If so, what is the maximum I can reliably go and what is the best way to do it? Range is a big issue with the current router we have and is why I purchased the ac68p.

Thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that thread. Unfortunately, the script proposed in that thread doesn't work and I am baffled by the iptables command.
