Based on FreeBSD 11 Stable, FreeNAS 11, the updated open source storage operating system includes the latest and greatest drivers and libraries available and adds four new notable features:
  • Virtualization is provided by bhyve, an open source hypervisor that supports web-scale virtual machines running Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and Linux distros.
  • FreeNAS 11 supports S3 compatible objects, allowing the development and deployment of Amazon storage services from within the storage OS environment.
  • The new Alert Service page can be configured to send critical messages from FreeNAS to services like Slack, PagerDuty, AWS, Hipchat, InfluxD, and others.
  • Lastly, in order to get community feedback, FreeNAS 11 includes a beta version of its Google Angular-based admin GUI, which should be finalized by version 11.1.
FreeNAS 11 is available now and downloadable from freenas.org/download.
