From N56U to R7000

Hi,

I am currently using my desktop with Tp-link T9uh to a N56U at 5GHz.
I am getting at least 100Mbps, constant(of course, variations of +/- 10Mbps)from speedtest.

If I changed to a R7000 using the same exact settings and putting it in the same location, would the throughput be increased as defined in the tests?
I know you don't need more than 100Mbps actually, but just to know if there might be an increase in throughput in case of traffic contention.

PS: Getting 100Mbps from WiFi 5Ghz, compared to 70+ from powerline....
Sad truth...

Hi Tomsonn,

Thank for replying but I think you might have misunderstood my question.
I was inquiring if converting N56U to a R7000 would give a better throughput than 100Mbps @ 5GHz.

If even replacing the N56U to a R7000 doesn't make much bandwidth improvement at the exact same placement, I don't see why I need to change.
That's what I am trying to ask. And if you are getting 70Mbps, while I am getting 90-110+, then I don't see the need to change in th case, which instead, goes against the results from the testbed in smallnetbuilder. I am technical but not on the wireless segment so I wanted to get the advice/theories from the people who know them here.

Sorry for the confusion.

It all depends on your ISP provisioned speeds. If your internet package is only 100Mbps, the router won't be able to increase your internet speed beyond what comes in trough your modem.

Netgear R7000 is a goo option. Currently, I am using this router. My connection is 70MBPS. I am getting full speed. I suggest you to take a look on other options too. I suggest you to take a look on this article to get complete comparisong among different Wi-Fi routers.

Actually, I just realized but you mentioned 70MBPS, did you mean literally 70 MegaBytes per second, rather than 70 Mega bits per second? That would result in 560 Megabits per second which is rather fast.

But usually, I believe bandwidth is usually termed in bits than bytes, so I am curious on if there was a typo or not?
