Function: Repeater Mode

Akeo

New Around Here
First I want to thank you for developing this function in our routers.
I really like the idea of stock with improved functions.
While only recently watched this position, I was about to sell my router because I could not use it as a repeater.
I tried several versions of dd-wrt, but they proved below expectations.
Now all has change.... :) I try RT-N16_3.0.0.4_264.22-rp version for RT-N 16 and this works very well for me.
I managed to amplify the signal from a d-link router without high packet loss.
The only problem I have is after I set the router in this mode, I can not connect to the web interface. I know after the router is set in repeater mode this automatically is sets another ip address (e.g 192.168.0.100) but I can not connect to the web interface . I have ping to ip adress, internet works very well, but i can not manage the router, only if use WDS button to clear factory default. I hope these problems will be solved in the future release.

Thank you very much for your hard work and Merry Christmas!!! :)

I'm having same problem as Akeo with N66U. I get partial view of web interface screen, but usually nothing. Can't get beyond partial screen. I've tried static IP as well, but no success. The Asus Discovery Tool finds the router OK. The repeater mode is working great otherwise.

The network I'm repeating has no password, but I added security on the N66U. The added security was not available on DD-WRT (on Cisco E1000).

Neat. Thanks Merlin!

PS:
I use networks at RV parks and want security on my devices in the RV. I was using a E1000 as a client bridge to the N66U (in AP mode) and then securing access to the N66U. The N66U would see all the RVer's in the park as clients.

I don't understand enough to know if I'm still secure in either the AP or Repeater Mode ---- am I??????

I tried the last 3.0.0.4.266.23b firmware but the problem still persists. I can not connect to the web interface even if I can ping the router. Thanks for your support.

Repeater mode is an experimental feature, and is totally unsupported, as Asus hasn't implemented/tested it for these routers.

Merlin,

Help us understand who's handling the building and updating of the experimental end of the repeater mode. It came from somewhere/someone. I'm just a user reporting a problem and I am interested in this mode working eventually.

Thanks...you are really doing a great service.....

The Repeater code is written by Asus, and destined to totally different router models than the N16/N66. I just enabled the option at build time, without any code change or testing on my end. If it works, that's cool. But if it doesn't, that might be because the feature is simply not fully compatible with this router model, and might require a lot of work to get fully working. Can be a limitation of the wireless driver as well, which is closed source. The Repeater code is spread all over the firmware, so understanding it fully is quite difficult.

As for Dual WAN, it's still under development by Asus. It would be a waste of time for me to debug the code that Asus is still actively developping. So essentially consider that one a preview of a feature to come at some point in the future.

That's why the builds with these options enabled are released separately from my regular releases. My primary focus is on stability and performance. Additional features come last in my priority order. And since I'm alone working on this, time and resources are limited, so I must stick to priorities. I am simply providing those experimental builds for people interested in playing with them, with no support or any guarantee on my part.

RMerlin,
Thanks for you excellent reply. I now understand.

For those interested, the repeater bridge is working for me. Once I changed to the repeater mode the router gave me the list of available SSIDs and I picked one and it worked. Only thing is I can't communicate with the router anymore. It did allow me to set the security before disappearing.

If I remember how the RT-N12 that I deployed for various customers worked as repeaters, their webui was still accessible (tho they didn't run Asuswrt but the older firmware code).

Did you try plugging a computer on a LAN port instead of the WAN port?

Did you try plugging a computer on a LAN port instead of the WAN port?

I was trying to access the N66U on wireless.

Did some experiments using 3.0.0.4.266.23b-dwrp.

Performed clean install as router.

Access 192.168.1.1 with computer connected to LAN port.
Repeater Mode would not save or configure when connected to LAN port.

Connected wireless and Repeater Mode setup quickly to Parent AP. Internet works great. No Access to web GUI.

Disconnected wireless then connected to LAN port. No Access to web GUI. Internet works great. Using it now for this message.

As wireless connection or LAN port connection the Device Discovery program gave 192.168.0.14 as address for repeater mode, but would not connect.
I tried 192.168: 0.1; 1.1; and 0.14. None worked.

WAN port connection does nothing, which I expected.

Rebooting (power off/on) sent me to http://www.asusnetwork.net/error_page.htm?flag=8 until the N66U stabilized with access to the Parent-AP. Still no web GUI.

I may try static IP access tomorrow, but the N66U has been really great by not requiring fussing with static IPs for what I do.

Just adding this data to the experimental Repeater Mode info base. No need to respond unless Eureka is around.

Thanks Again.

Just loaded: RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_270.24-dwrp

Setup as Repeater Mode.

Can now wirelessly connect to the web interface using the Device Discovery utility.

Thanks for that fix Merlin...

The Wireless section on the web interface does not show. The LAN section does show. The wireless log shows the proper connections.

Any fix would have been from Asus. I'm not touching the repeater code at this time since Asus is still actively developing it.

I not find any dwrp file in experimental folder at mediafire link(only dw file). Are this version not continue again? i'm using ac66u.

Repeater mode is not supported by the RT-AC66U.

In the last build "3.0.0.4.372.31_0-dwrpyd" , repeater mode function work perfectly. Thank you very much Merlin. ;)
