Dear All,

We would like to have Gigabit transfer speeds from a wired NAS (Gigabit capable) for our backups.

We have a Fast EThernet router, do we need to upgrade the router to a gigabit router as well? ie does everything in the path have to be gigabit capable?

Or can we add a gigabit switch after the Fast EThernet router and connect the NAS to the Gigabit switch and the source of the backup to the switch?

ie, we would do the backups using wired connections, not wireless.

Im sure I really should be able to answer this myself!

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Alan

You do not need to upgrade your router. Simply adding a gigabit switch will do what you are asking.
