GT-AX11000 keeps crashing after every few days (WiFi so it seems), and need to hard-reboot to get it working again

Power2All

Occasional Visitor
I have a Asus GT-AX11000 for a while now.
After a friend recommended me to use OpenWRT Merlin as replacement, after telling him I had crashing problems every couple of days, I installed it as normal.

Sadly, the crashing didn't disappear, and when it crashes, the WiFi driver seems to be getting stuck in a loop or something.
I've tried disabling certain things to figure out what is causing it, but I haven't been figuring it out for a while.

Using: 3004.388.10_2_rog

Maybe anybody here knows this issue, and how to solve it ?

Is it getting clean power? Have you checked the power adapter? Do you own any tools to test the power, aka a multi-meter?

Yes it does.
I got a socket meter that shows a constant voltage and watt/amp.
No other devices have shown issues, the electricity stability in my village (near Amsterdam) is pretty stable.
I've looked around online, some friends and developers I know might point to the broadcom chipsets that are known to have stability issues ?

A Watt Meter is not good to test the actual adapter. Is the adapter overly warm? You can test a "no load" of the adapter with a multi-meter. It could be internal and you would have to open the case to find out. The router might also be overheating?

I've had adapters go bad with a buzzing noise as well.

A factory reset will get you to a known good state. Manually configure the basics after factory reset with reinstalled stock ASUS firmware, latest for the router. See if the issue re-appears. If it does, try downgrading the firmware to the last one before the issues showed up. Again, factory reset and manual configure. Test. If it is still there, you likely have a hardware issue or power supply issue with the AC/DC adapter or chip on the main board. Replacement adapters are available online, but be careful to match the DC cord plug tip size and polarity. Any level of amps above the current spec one at the same voltage will work.

If it is still under warranty, call ASUS.

Can you remove release tag as you don't release anything. Thks

First time I'm here guys, take it easy :)
I didn't understood, thought it meant what version I used of the Merlin firmware.

I've already replaced this one before, when it actually burned through ones directly.
I have no buzzing, and I don't know anymore what version I used before this happened.
But it happened since somewhere in November.

Already done factory setting reset, as Asus themselves already told me to try this.
There is no warranty anymore as far as I'm aware.

As for the power adapter, it doesn't feel hot at all.
A little bit of warmth, but nothing much.

no worries.
what happened with this -
"I've already replaced this one before, when it actually burned through ones directly."

?
I bought it back then (somewhere in 2023), got it, plugged it in, the device worked for a while, had a strange hum.
Next day I came back from work, single led was burning and it smelled burned (the Asus device).
Sent it back to the shop, who told me it got literally burned through somewhere inside.

Asus sent me a replacement, and that one worked fine for quiet a while.
Since November I did a patch on the router, as I didn't done that for quiet a while, and it started giving me problems now, with every 2 to 3 days, suddenly internet drops, WiFi connections gone and cabled network disappears. Have to do a hard reset to get it working again. Contacted Asus support, who advised me a factory reset, which I did. Still kept happening, so I did some tweaking on the WiFi settings, disabling some features, which Claude.AI advised me to try, and see if it would improve the stability, and it claimed it was a known issue with Broadcom chipsets.
Logs I put through Claude.AI who came with the conclusion something was up with the WiFi drivers.

I have no idea what I could try anymore, other then perhaps sticking to 2.4Ghz and disabling 5ghz and see if that stays stable...
Unless you people might have a hint what could causing this ?

i would load a much earlier stock firmware, factory reset, and manual configure to see if you can get stability back.

try before the xxx102x versions

i would try an older firmware. If that doesn't do it, maybe ASUS will replace it again.

regarding wireless settings to change -
i would turn off smart connect , AUTO channel select (stay away from DFS channels), AUTO channel width ( use 20 MHz for 2.4 GHz, 80 MHz for 5 GHz channels) , off for MIMO, off QOS,

see if you can find a replacement AC/DC adapter that fits as well. Use the DC voltage and current spec on the existing one .

Tip diameter and polarity are the tricky part of the spec. which ASUS doesn't specify, sadly.
