I'm on Asus-Merlin 386.7_2 with a RT-AC68U, and thanks to this thread I was able to successfully connect my devices switching over to Guest #2. bWith Guest #1 I could not connect except for a single iPhone that had connected when the router rebooted, but none of my other iPhones would, nor would an IoT device that I wanted off the internal network.
No OpenVPN set-up here, except for a PPTP/L2TP Client connection from the router that had long ago moved to an unactivated state.
