Help with the ASUS RT-N56U

Englund

New Around Here
Hi there!

I recently purchased the ASUS RT-N56U router for my new fiber network (100/100).

Im very pleased with this router and for me it works perfectly aside from some flaws that im unhappy with. One of them is my upload speed to the internet.. I'm using the 5Ghz band on my router and i can actually achieve download speeds up to about 90Mbps which for me is quite amazing compared to my old 6Mbps network.

However! My upload speed is lacking behind big time and i can only achieve about 5Mbps there.. Where as when i'm wired i reach about 70-80.

My router is positioned in another room from my computer and the distance is about 5 meters and a wall. Since i can get this high of a down speed, shouldnt the up speed atleast be a bit better... especially with the 5ghz band?

Thank you for your time and i appreciate any answers and help i can get :)
Cheers!

Hi I'd check 2 things

have you set your priorities for the router in the way you want it to handle diffrent types of jobs ie gamming. ftp , videos etc?

Are you really on 5 ghz ? does your wifi card in your pc support this frequency most only do 2

Hi there and thanks for the answer!

I havent set any priorites at all im afraid.

Yes im sure om using the 5Ghz band. I am using an usb adapter with 5ghz and has different SSIDs for the 2.4 and 5ghz connection.

Any other tips?

Try putting the new router "up higher" the signal will propagate better

or if you can get a wire in there if its that close just to check out the thruput

and verify the pc and switch variables...

Uploads will always be a bit, if not slower, especially with Wi-Fi. Also, anti-virus can cause the results to be some what erroneous. Even the way you bench/measure can be a erroneous.

I've tryed having the router up higher with no result. However when i woke up today my speed had somehow shot trough the roof wirelessly over the night.. I'm achiveving up to 50mb/s upload speed now without changing anything.. very weird. But im happy aslong as its like this :O
